Hi,

So, we have recently ran into issues where a few members would post downloaded builds from websites like PMC and ask money for it. This is against our rules and we are very strict about this and sometime go to the point of banning a member for it, as it can be considered scamming.

I came up with the idea of forcing builders to post screenshots of their builds during the build process. This would make it somewhat harder to sell stolen builds.

Please vote on the poll. I'd also appreciate if you leave your opinion of why you've voted.

+1 I have seen to many people get scammed because there was no proof the person made the build.

Yes, the only reason they got scammed was because the thread lacked a couple pictures. Seems legit.
No they got scammed because someone would come on here with an amazing build for sale at a cheap price then someone would buy it and get the build but only to find out that it was a free download build so yes they did get scammed because it lacked pictures to prove it was their build.[DOUBLEPOST=1454336569,1454336377][/DOUBLEPOST]
Practically useless since sometimes people sell builds that they bought themselves from other people, and most of the time don't have screenshots of the building process

Well if the build is bought of a McMarket user then they could have screenshots of the build and then reply to the post with them saying that the user has permission to sell his build.

What we have learned today!

1.) Pictures can be faked due to several processes that take "so much effort" to do.

2.) The schematic you will download can be fake to an extent or can be take from thousands of sources and uploaded in any way shape or form.

3.)Recordings can be faked to an extent because you truly have no real proof when a build was actually created. For a schematic example it can be loaded into a server copied and resaved then uploaded.

4.) Apparently everyone is dumb when it comes to world edit. Again proven false if there are thousands of builders than can do it and world edit has forumns and YouTube pages dedicated to it anyone really can learn this.

5.) This prevents older builds useless and not able to be posted due to this process which a new user or a builder selling his/her own builds are rejected for this idea of "proof." Because if you have no pictures it must be fake.

I honestly disagree with this as personally, I do not take pics while I build, or a I plain forget to. Maybe have it this way for new members and lesser known users but not well known/common users. Taking pics during a build is normally forgotten, I never remember to do it. I do not want a small picture during building to be the outcome if it can sell or not.

I say no because some people resell builds they bought or forget to take screenshots during the build process.

Okay mister negative, what do you suggest we do about it? Scamming has become a real problem on MCM and needs to be stopped completely or at least reduced as much as possible.

Thank you for the compliment however taking pictures proves little if anything. Plus as thebaum64 said a picture shouldn't be a determining factor if you can even post it or not.

I see a way that could "Limit" how much scamming there is

Leveling system not based on ratings but legitimate sales count

Soft Currency players can transfer in and out of site.

The numbers below are just for example it is an idea better than pictures that would slow the scamming process.
How this can work: Say I would like to purchase 10.00 of credit for MCM
MCM can say charge 11.00 to account for money lost on purchase if any....
Person 1: Can buy Person 2's build for 2.99 and it allows the player to get the build and this money is held in an "Account" type thing
Where a person who is selling builds has (Money On Hold) (Money To Spend) (Money to Takeout) holding newer users (determined by my level system before) to wait a small portion of time determined by price (MCM settable) and so if a scam is to be reported Player 1's money isn't withdrawn out of site until X amount of days after the purchase has been made giving the BUYER enough time to do a scam report. Gives a moderator time to check it. and then depending on the level of the user you can lower the amount of time needed to wait to cash out. However I would not make the leveling system on ratings it needs to be its own special rating that can only be done through selling items fairly were no scam reports are submitted.

So this in sense gives a buyer enough time to ensure the build is what they were suppose to pay for (in-case it gets looked over)
this then gives the buyer enough time to file a report and have a mod check it without the money being high-tailed out of the system and the user only gets a ban. This system would allow the return of currency from scammed posts.

This is not a bullet proof system but this is better than it being directly linked between PayPal and then it is gone.
Paypal has a similar feature where you get so many days for a charge-back However I have been screwed over personally by this system
more times than one to understand all the other person has to do is wait until the last day to deny refund and its practically a time game rather than a scam stopper.

However this system will put responsibility on the Buyer to send in a scam report and to watch his purchases but also gives a safety net if a seller decides to scam by holding some ropes.

MCM can do some wombo jumbo in the TOS and stuff against liability between the two and is only acting as a moderator to see proper deals are set. And that if a buyer does not make a claim within x amount of time. They cannot create once since the money has already been lifted on the other user's account.

It is a fair system for buyer and seller.
If buyer tries cheating <punishment>
If seller tries cheating <punishment>

That way you do not have actual sellers being ripped off.

I actually like this idea, but would probably cost a lot to develop. I don't know of a Xenforo add-on that does this already. It reminds me of the eBay feedback system.

I mean there are hundreds of ways to develop something similar like this but this is how I would do it yes it would be a pain in the butt for very actual non-posting users that start but when someone is a legitimate builder MCM has a reason to believe them and lift some/all of these limitations.

I would also like Premium/Supreme members have the ability to see ads on their choice. Again it helps the site if you care about the site you would be willing to enable ads I can say that the ads on this site have not bothered me at all and wouldn't mind having them always on.

And yes this idea may be somewhat expensive (possibly) but considering how big the scam problem is I don't see how it is not worth it.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind seeing the ads either. Make a suggestion for that in a new thread :)

I will however I do agree that there needs to be more display to a post to show like at least a picture of the build unfinished or not and should have like some meat to the description. If the build you get isn't what is described I would consider it a scam unless it was something incredibly small and neglect-able. The site needs wiggle room so everyone isn't getting banned or punished but enough enforcement to keep the honest honest and the bad apples out.

I said yes, but soon regretted it. Because what about the people who are RESELLING builds?

Honestly that portion I feel should be fine if you buy a house you have the ability to resell it. I do not personally see an issue with this because technically you paid for their service what you do with that is on you however I do see a problem with builders making "Contracts" between the purchaser telling them they cannot do this however I feel it should be an allowed build on the site unless the builder/build team has proof of this and wants it taken down. Then leave it up to the user selling the build as a resale and the builder who built it to have an altercation. However that is why there is a little report button for each post.
