Those same requirements to post in there? Make those the same requirements to actually view the section. I don't know if this is already a thing.

I agree with this, but I also think they should make it so the new requirements are only needed for new members. As I used to loan people money and now I can't due to this requirement.

So pretty much they should not be applied retroactively?

I believe Mick said it was a bug that if you have permission to view the forum but can't post. Cuz I mentioned this in shoutbox and he said it was a bug most likely.

I see members who join this day with around 50 messages and 0 rep being able to post but I can't while having 600 messages and 4 rep.

You should be able to post a loan service when you first join but not be able to ask for a loan - and your account should be instantly banned if you try to knowingly evade the rule.
Instantly banned is too much I’d say warning points. Imo this wouldnt work out well because people would just PM others for loans since they can view the section and evade that really easily hence why I am suggesting this
I think these requirements need to be reputation-based.
Reputation is a really small factor when it comes into this. I’d rather staff manually select people rather than just add everyone over 20 rep because some of the most trustworthy people on here have very little rep

Manually select people? The staff team have enough time on their hands as it is, so I doubt that’d be an option. Look how many people use this site daily - manually selecting people would be super impractical.

If you are demanding MCM implement a system, it needs to be based off reputation - however this too has flaws. Days before he was banned, someone I regarded as extremely reputable having been a former staff member approached me for a loan - and I nearly gave it to him if it wasn’t an absurd amount. He later exit scammed. We need an open discussion about how best to cut down the amount of scams on the loaning forum.

My preferred method would to not have a system but encourage loaners to carry out full background checks on MCM, using more alerts if a user has a scam report against them or are requesting other loans (perhaps a loan request spreadsheet) to help cut down scammers. I believe MCM should assist loaners in choosing who to loan to - through a place where approved loaners can go and see who has taken out loans. Make it a requirement that you must fill out a form or update a database when someone has taken out a loan. This isn’t impossible - and MCM already have regulations in place to ensure consumers are protected; now we need perhaps more rules to help protect loaners too.

No system will stop all scams, but we need a new way of doing this in that forum.

They manually select users for the Private OG section already. It would be practical and wouldn’t exactly consume time.

What you need to understand is that reputation isn’t a big factor when it comes to determining whether someone is trustworthy or not. You have to look at others factors because rep as a number is very easy to get. I could sit here selling cheap products like spotify upgrades and get myself 100 rep if I do it enough.

Also that last one is just not going to happen. This puts liability on MCM. Suppose they direct them to giving a loan to a high rep user and that high rep user pulls an exit scam for a high amount. Someone might try and take action on MCM because of that saying that their money was taken because of MC-Market. That is not an option. That’s also why so many loan scams take place since the section is barebones. They should definitely make a thread assisting people to take actions like background checking people and being careful with loans, just advice. That never hurts

Honestly, don't see a benefit here? Unless I'm missing something that would explain why this would have a benefit.

Welp, that'd be an interesting bug then.

Less people taking out loans & less people getting scammed. It makes no sense being able to view the section but not post in it and the benefits of doing this would be good

Mcm shouldn't be liable for the loaning process as we have to investigate in order to know who we are talking to. I personally suggest asking for deposits up front, that way if they do scam then you end up getting the deposit+chargeback amount.

Im not saying that as something MCM should require, just saying as a personal solution.

I believe that at the moment we plan on removing our investments and loans forum from the site since it is too difficult to regulate and leads to a lot of scams. Once we do that, this won't really be relevant anymore.

If you would like to read more about this change, check here: https://www.mc-market.org/threads/530483/

Denied, thanks for the suggestion.
