I mean I don't see how this is a shock to anyone, Bitcoin became known mostly because of it's early association with illegal activities. One of the first big bitcoin things was when the Silk Road got shut down and they seized thousands of bitcoins. I don't understand why people are only learning about it's past and present usage now.

It's not about usage, it's simply about what's contained in the blockchain (but yes, people were skeptical from the beginning of it)

As I said before, this will be a giant blow to bitcoin, and a perfect excuse for authorities to crack down on crypto in general, but the concept of a blockchain will recover. It will need to be redesigned from scratch to prevent things like this, and I can't even begin to think how one would start on that, but it will be done. There are too many possibilities.
