Hey everyone!

I was out of the loop of 10 years, previously had built and hosted various communities. Last month started looking back into it.

Since then, I’ve been juggling my time between my day job and working on something I’ve wanted to do for years - building my own MMORPG. I’ve always loved games like RuneScape and Minecraft, and that idea of fantasy world has stuck with me for a long time. So I figured... why not finally try to make it?

The core idea I’m going for is a player-based resource economy. Meaning, literally every item in the game comes from players. No random loot chests, no weird mob drops - just gathering, crafting, trading, and a bit of that grindy, but satisfying gameplay. Kinda like RuneScape, honestly
:D

It’s still very early in development. There’s no lore yet, and most of what I have is just the tiny bit of the core mechanics. But I figured it might be a good time to share what I’ve been working on, especially since building something like this in total isolation can get a bit overwhelming.

So, here’s the homepage if anyone’s curious: https://www.runeheim.org/ (still very bare-bones
:)
)
Also a Discord: https://discord.gg/dZpS2mkb2k

If you’re interested in following the progress or just want to chat about ideas, you’re more than welcome to join in. I’ll be posting some screenshots in the Discord from time to time, and if enough people are into it, I’ll try to start showcasing the project in a more structured way.

To be super clear: this isn’t a live server or anything commercial. I’m just sharing my dev journey. If this goes against any rules, totally get it and I’ll take the thread down.

Thanks for reading ^^

This weekend I've been working on adding gem fusion mechanics for armor, weapons, and tools.
There are some edges that are yet to be polished but now you can actually fuse gems into your gear!

Also, some campfires that have been added a week ago ^^

Should I bring back the Sheep Shearer quest in RuneHeim? Chase sheep, shear wool, dodge chaos. Worth it for 60 coins and glory?

I've recently added new spawn zones for mobs, allowing full configuration of how, where, and which mobs spawn. There's also full support for tracking whether mobs are alive or dead, as well as setting spawn chances for different mob types. Also, I added 3D models for fairies! They're no longer just particles spinning around the player - now they're full-on cute creatures and companions!

Lots of minor stuff have been also added meanwhile:
More combat improvements: weapon speed & health bars

Mob drop tables & coins drops (The coins texture also updates depending on the amount dropped)

Instance based shops - players see the same stock when looking at the same shop from the same NPC. It’s all fully configurable and doesn’t require any changes to the existing code to update. Will probably extend its functionality in the future, but really happy on how it works for now.

Items of type 'Container' - Vials, pots, buckets, etc., that can be filled with different materials and substances. These will all be used in crafting systems later on.

Plus fully working fairies! You can level them up using upgrades, and they’ll give you buffs (as long as you don’t starve them ). A breeding system is also planned: Gen 1 + Gen 1 = Gen 2, with more bonuses and a higher max level.

Also, I've also hit a milestone! The project has now grown to around 20,000 lines of pure logic code (excluding item definitions). I’m really proud of hitting this mark in just 2 months - especially while juggling development alongside a full-time job. Definitely feels like a solid achievement!
