I thought I'd make a post about this, since it's the one app that's made the biggest improvement to my computing experience. It's just an adblocker, but the only blocker I've seen that does as good a job as this one is UBlock Origin on Chrome with multiple custom blacklists added. This isn't a plug, or an affiliate, or anything like that. Just a recommendation.

Also, if you're someone who dislikes messing with blockers (this is why I eventually grew tired of UBlock customizing on Chrome), this is the simplest blocker I've ever seen. A single install, and that's it.

High performance, consistent uptime and fast support. Minecraft hosting that just works.

Honestly, no. I didn’t use an adblocker for years after they became popular; I only started doing so last year. The reason was that some websites abuse ads, to the point where the website is unusable. My favorite example is TechRadar. It’s unbearably bloated, and the sad part is, there are millions like it. I have 500 tabs open on my machine… bloat from ads adds up fast, and I will not tolerate my entire system being bogged down by this bullshit.

If you want an interesting way to do it, Raspberry PI is a way to go. There are entire projects dedicated to this and it's a matter of time before we make huge huge communities. :)

Ig.
Ads also track you and can steal a lot of your personal/private information. I just use NordVPN, works fine for me. :)
Yeah I use a vpn as well

Right, I'm saying the VPN has an Adblocker built in so I can use it on both my computer and phone.
If you look on my desktop screenshot (first post), you’ll see that I’ve got NordVPN installed as well. But I only use it when on shoddy public Wi-Fi or traveling abroad. I didn’t know it had an AdBlocker built in. How well does it work?

I’ve heard of Pi-Hole, but I’ve never been quite so bothered so as to invest the amount of time needed to get it up and running. I think it’s more a solution for enthusiasts than anything else.

I currently use the Motorola Dynatac 8000X as my main device for all things computing related.
It's far superior to the Raspberry PI's processing power

We have a winner.

I just like working on projects that I can see some difference, helps with anxiety, depression and a lot of other things. It's not only for enthusiasts, but it can also be for a wide range of people. I could see college kids doing something cool with Raspberry PIs because when you have a lot of time one day and not a lot of time for the rest you're sort of forced to do something to make life that little bit easier.

I completely understand what you're saying, but each person has different projects they'd like to work on. I, for example, would want to use that time to maybe take apart my Radeon 7 and replace it's cooler with a thicker, after-market one. Add some quiet fans onto it. If I'm really feeling ballsy, take apart my MacBook Pro and slap some liquid metal onto it. There's lots of stuff that tickles my fancy, but configuring a Pi-Hole setup isn't really one of them. That's not to say it may not be a better fit for someone else (like yourself).

I totally agree. :)

Better yet, classify adsense and other ad serving IP ranges as malicious in your IDS/Firewall. No advertisements ever again. :)

bt2S5NpQVjX9yGNKJ It’s interesting that we were talking about Pi-Hole, and less than a day later Linus makes a video about it:

(Oooooh Linux Stealing Content I see.)

I'm sure it's just a coincidence.
Nah man. Linus IS the internet. The socks and sandals see all! It's no coincidence…
