Unlikely. If you both live in the same country, it might be an option, but the police will usually have too few resources and too much to do to bother with internet scammers until they become a REAL issue, while a direct lawsuit will cost far more than the money involved.

You could theoretically, but you'd need to be able to hand over his details and proof to the police so they dont need to do any investigation themselves. Many countries' police won't bother otherwise.
