Hello there, I'm working on a server that is in desperate need of a developer. The server on which I'm working has a limited budget. As a result, we will be unable to pay. However, if any developers are interested, please let me know. Send me a message on Discord at dormin#7015.

Now, if you're curious about what the server would be, keep reading. It'll be similar to Factions, but with a unique twist. It's a bit simpler than Factions, but it'll be just as entertaining.

Now I understand that many developers want to be compensated for their efforts, and I understand that. However, the server's owner has a limited budget, which I must respect as an administrator. However, if you're interested, please contact me via Discord.

I'm going to be brutally honest here because I'm sick of seeing posts like this on MCM.

You should be a good Admin and tell your owner not to piss away his money. Minecraft servers are incredibly expensive, assuming you want legitimate success, and are failed investments 90% of the time. The issue is oversaturation. You can say your server is unique or that it's one-of-a-kind, but honestly that unique aspect of your otherwise recycled server is most likely not enough to attract players and potential customers.

That said, development is the most important part of a server. Quality development costs a lot of money, and for most servers they find it their second largest expense (Directly after marketing). Free developers will almost never be quality, and when it comes down to launching a server you desperately need quality. If one plug-in with dependancies breaks, the entire server could crash. What are you going to do then?

The last point I'll make is the attractiveness, or rather the lack thereof, of this post. You state that your server is unique but give absolutely zero indication of how, specifically saying "Keep reading" then providing no details beyond that. If you truly want to attract a free developer, which I wouldn't advise anyways, then you should at least write out the concept fully. That doesn't mean you have to give away your idea. Put it behind an NDA, only send it to people on Discord who agree to sign it. If it's that valuable, protect it.

None of this is said to demoralize you nor the owner of this server - Don't mistake my intent as that. My words are meant to provide insight in both of your minds. The frank reality of the situation is that a solid 90% of Minecraft servers fail, and unless you have some solid money, a damn good plan, and some fresh new thing (Which is far, far easier said than done), your server has little to no chance of success. It simply is no longer a good investment.

Can't agree more. Developing plugins for Minecraft is the same as developing enterprise level applications, it is still software engineering. But with one big difference. Users and companies that are interested in enterprise level applications actually knows the value of your experience and time and do not offer you %'s of their sales (lol) or way too low salary, even if you are junior dev. There are very few serious companies / networks amongst the whole Minecraft community that actually knows how much development costs. But yeah, do not forget that we are in Minecraft community where as you stated, 90% of upcoming networks fail, because CEO has very limited budget, or actually thinks that's a nonsense to pay "that much" for development.

I often find myself in situation where potential client asks me for a quote and when I tell him the price he just backs off and think that's a total nonsense. You can actually hire an amateur Spigot developer for "cheap", but do not expect flying pigs and 10,000 players on your network.

If you want to do something, either you do it well, or you just don't do it, cause the result will obviously not be the expected.
