Server Help?

So I want to start a minecraft server but all I have is $3 to my name (I can pay for 3 months of a server host which my friend is staff on) but can you guys help me with some ways I can get players and start making money from the server cause if I don't get any donations I can't run the server, the server is going to make a factions server, thanks

Edit: I already have all the builds for the server and plugins configured and coded I just need help with getting the player base and getting donations!

idk, without money it's going to be hard. Hit up some forums like PMC, and when ready sign up on some top sites and get as many people to vote for your server.

Yeah with no voting what Bi0Ph34r said is probably the best you can do. After you get an okay playerbase make a simple youtube rank and upcoming youtubers with like 500-1000 subs might want it in exchange for the rank they will record on the server which will get 2-4 players (minimum but varies with youtuber) and from that point on if you still don't have donations to advertise then you most definitely need to hope for word of mouth.
Don't just get my opinion though probably should get it from people who actually have/had successful servers.
