Hi all, I've been looking around a bit but there seems to be very little information available about the server infra setup and system administration and such.

I'm eager to learn and love to so things by my self, I don't mind paying people for advice but I'm not really interested in hiring someone who will set everything up for me. I can set up a VPs and get things running but then the question will be if it's secure enough and If it even makes sense. Since there's not really a clear resource page with information it's hard to know if you did the right thing or not.

I'm sure I'm not the only one that is interested in more knowledge about all these kind of topics so it would be amazing if we could have some things shared on this topic and maybe we can create some guide or wiki with a bunch of tips collected.

I understand each use case is different but for me that's not really relevant I just wanna learn more about it and there's just very little information available online. So every little bit of information would be an interesting read for sure.

For my use case I just want to host a 100 player server, initially I will likely just use an VPS and eventually switch to dedi when needed but that should be kind of irrelevant.

Some topics I'd love to learn more about:
Please also let me know if I forgot anything important.
  • Recommended hardware, like a list of CPUs that are great for Minecraft and a list you should stay away from and maybe just things to look out for what aspects for s server instance are more important than others.
  • Other hardware requirements like ram etc
  • Recommended tools for infra setup, like Terraform and Ansible for example
  • Docker containers?
  • Crash detection and auto reboots
  • DDOS prevention and mitigation
  • Firewalls
  • Proxies
  • Known vulnerabilities
  • System security and hardening
  • Database infra setup and networking
  • Networking, like maybe a VPC?
  • Performance monitoring
... And I'm sure there's lots more to it

If you have links to share or any advice to share that'd be awesome. If you're willing to share your knowledge for a fee then I'm also down to talk.

I think it'd be awesome if we could create some sort of guide regarding sysadmin for Minecraft and have a more centralized place where we can help wach other out by sharing knowledge.
