Hey everyone, my name is Brob and I've been in the server Management scene since 2013. I've been able to build up two servers from the ground without much capital to start with, and personally I feel like I am a good owner. I always take feedback from my players, and I try to keep my server as balanced as possible to provide the highest quality of gameplay for my players. I have a weak spot though, and that is server monetization. I can never seem to earn as much money on my servers as other servers with similar player counts do.

For example, back in March of 2014, I bought MCSL slot 3 for $4400, and split it with someone. After the two weeks, I made back around $3500, which is a nice $1300 profit. The thing is though, during that time I had over 100 players on at a time. Nowadays slot 3 goes for $10K+! There is no way my server would earn over $10K in one month with 150-200 people online.

For a more recent example, I bought slot 10 for $3712, and split that with my nigga Vice. I paid over $1800 for two weeks of advertising, and by the time the end of the month came, I didn't even break even. I only made $1700. I am currently slot 10 for the first two weeks of this month, and I hope to turn things around. 3 days into it I'm at about $190, which I guess is pretty "on track" because a lot of players who joined from the advertising are still feeling the server out before they donate to it. I just don't want to keep breaking even here. I want to be able to throw $1,500 down for a slot split on MCSL and be able to slowly creep my way up the list like Origin did back in the day.

It would really mean a lot if I could get some advice on what I'm doing wrong. Thanks for anyone who takes the time out of their day to check me out. My server information is listed below.

One thing I can certainly you make sure you absolutely do is always do the best you can to please the existing player base while getting the new ones in. If the existing base is happy then chances of the new ones doing the same and "pitching in" will be increased.

I will also says that is a neat idea of starting on slot 10 and slowly increasing advertising exposure over time. I notice also your unhappy that your seeing increased advertising rates. One way other than hoping for better ROI is try more "targeted" advertising, for example if your server were to be factions based try advertising there than a "general" purpose Minecraft server listing. You will get less lead but sometimes the "conversion rates" will be well worth than the "traffic" lost.
