My server ain't that popular but i still make 50 USD per month.

So what about the big servers?

PrimeMC has 1,500-2,500 players each day. Back in June of 2015, the Owner had told me he gives himself whatever is left over at the end of the month (I was a Helper then). He said he made in the five digits for himself, so he made well over $10,000 for himself and the server made more than that in total. But they were asked by Mojang to comply with the EULA, so their sales are about to drop.
