So right now a new server under the name ArchaicFactions just opened, whilst my server (ArchaicFactions) has been (as far as I'm aware) open for longer.
I honestly don't feel like thrashing their server, but now whilst we were preparing for the new season they have opened making it harder for us to open without being called the copycat.
I might just be overreacting or something but at this opint I don't really know what's the right thing to do; should I change the name? Should I just open without caring about them?
What would you guys do and why?

Thanks in advance,
Jadhex.

Well, you can't really do much since they have the right to use the name just as much as you do (as I'm guessing you already know).

My best advice would be to try and ignore them as you've said but work on making your server 10x better than theirs.

Kinda assumed that already, luckily (in my opinion) our logo looks more professional.
If it's a big server then I suggest changing your server's name, you can't win against the big ones . Maybe you could try to talk it out with the owner? but if they already spent $ on branding they'll probably say no.
So what? People steal ideas and names daily, it's a shitty thing but we have to accept it honestly. If they're bigger then you then you'll be the flagged for stealing even if you began earlier etc, but I have a question is the server that's "stealing" your name big? otherwise as said by sparko, try asking if they can change their name.
Depending on what you call big, they opened yesterday with an 80 man peak as far as I'm aware. I have already spoken to the owner and he stated that he was not planning on changing the name.

Then there isn't much you can do, cause like if he/she/they have a bigger player-base then yours, they can simply say you copied them, and like you shouldn't care that much, it'd be a different story if you had a big network and someone did it.

I mostly don't care about the name, it's just that it costs money again (Logo, Banner, Trailer, Domain(s)). Kinda thinking that if I'd just continue this one all the money that would have to be put in all the art I can maybe get a bigger launch than that.
Anyway thanks everyone for your replies.

Jadhex I would try contacting the owner of the server, finding out when it was opened etc and then you come to an agreement.

If your server was open before, then he is the wrong and visa versa.

Hope this helped, also, don't get yourself or your server a bad reputation whilst doing this :)
