Hi, I'm looking for some expert opinions or general opinions on hosting single, non-hub servers in 2018.
I've been hosting servers since 2012 and am currently in the process of running a single, rpg-esk survival server. I currently have hosting, a domain, forums and builds. I'm still in the process of configuring everything to fit our theme. I've got a team of three who have been hosting as long as I have. My budget is currently sitting at about $1,000 but it's expanding weekly. I am looking for advice on if single servers are still loved by the community. I do not plan to host a network since I've seen good servers die because of that transfer.
I am not in this for money. I would host if that meant there was a community and even if I made no return. I realize this is technically a bad business model, but I am currently in a situation where I am able to keep the server up permanently. I host servers for the community. I've hosting plenty of successful servers and already have my foot in the door.
I've been looking in this sub fourm for a while now looking if anyone sells rpg servers and have only seen one. I've been trying to figure out why, does this mean rpg is dead, or too much trouble to host?
I'm still thinking about buying a setup from someone here and running it to just generate a player base, but I feel it would be neglected.
If you have any current setups in mind that I could look at, or any tips for hosting in 2018 It would be greatly appreciated.
