Step 1: Use an actual host. You won't get far with home hosting. Even if it's test server you could get DDoSed and it could lag a lot.

what is this DDOS protection? If its some type of free software you have or a VPN those are easy to get around....

You will need a firewall box something like this for at home use is cheap and very safe to use http://www.serversupply.com/NETWORKING/FIREWALL/10-100-1000/CISCO/ASA5520-BUN-K9.htm

I use this CISCO box for one of my personal home racks (a rack we test with before we upload it to our servers on Kansas.)

And those are cheap ones most cost around 2,000 dollars.... So if you really want to be safe and have fun with friends and other Minecraft players like others have said we would highly recommend you go with a Professional host of your choice.

I have ddose protection and 16 gm ram.

Means nothing,
Its about your internet connection!

I have 100MBPS and I can only hold like 25 players,
and 100 MBPS is ALOT.
Average internet connection is like 10-30 MBPS... So good luck. 3-10 times worse than my beast internet which only holds 25 no lag.

Home internet isnt good for hosting..

He also does have a good point.... We are on a 10gbps line but with all the traffic it can go down to 1gbps so the deal with the data center we have, we have to advertise at 1gbps.
