I have been thinking to learn Java for making server plugins. I have experience With Python. What do you guys think?

If you want to go into coding at any point in your life, job, fun, etc. it is always good to know Java as it is so vast and common in everything. Plus, it is arguably the easiest cross-compatible language for different OS.

Java can be useful if you are going into the computer sciences or I.T.

There's really nothing to lose by learning it, except your time I guess. It has a lot of functionalities outside of Minecraft, so the skills you learn will be useful even if block game dies.

Learn it, but not for the money.

I'd learn Java to a considerable level first before attempting to make server plugins I'd recommend as otherwise you could easily develop bad habits.
Maybe some people would disagree as by making plugins you are learning visually, but for someone who self taught, I regret heavily jumping straight into Minecraft related stuff.

Im triying to learn java right now but I dont get it. I really like this programming language but its hard for me :/
Any advice?

Start with something small, then set little goals and try to fulfill them. For example, start by making a tic-tac-toe game, find out how you can improve on it once you're finished, you'll find that doing these small little challenges will make you learn all the syntax! That's just something that helped me pick up my first coding languages.

You need a focus. Set yourself a goal. Without a goal, without something to work to, there won't be a point to learn it. Oh and remember Google is your best friend :D For beginners 99.9% of the errors and issues you're having have the solutions on Google!

This might be an unpopular opinion, but if you're thinking about Java it's worth thinking about other languages which leverage the JVM, particularly Scala.

I would extend this by saying that 99.9% of issues you will ever have will have helpful insights if not solutions in Google. Anecdotally I've Google'd for a solution and found a StackOverflow question solved by myself.

I'd say JS is the most cross-compatible language. Especially with frameworks like Angular.

If you're learning for fun, I'd pick up Kotlin, C#, or JS.[DOUBLEPOST=1514403151][/DOUBLEPOST]
StackExchange is amazing.
You disagreed with my post, but then said JS was the right answer...? LOL

You know that Java and JavaScript are two different things right?[DOUBLEPOST=1514481045][/DOUBLEPOST]

Scala is nice but I'm going to throw Kotlin in again. It's incredible.
Yeah, but they are essentially the same thing. One is Programming the other is Scripting. Besides that, they are essentially interchangeable. Especially in regards to this discussion.

Also, this discussion is on Java. You never say why you disagree with my post, you just disagree and quote it with no real response to it.
