Announcement: Mick’s balls are enormous. That is all.

This announcement notification idea sounds like a great idea!

I think this would be a great addition to the forums.

The reason I’ve not wanted to do this in the past was because I hadn’t tested out whether or not it will send an email notification (which I don’t want to send to 200,000 people), and I’m not sure if I can make the alert expire if you don’t check it for a long enough time because I don’t want old members to come back to the forum with 10 alerts that aren’t at all relevant to them. I also always figured that users would be against this? Would you not find it annoying to get a bulk-alert?

I’ll definitely look into this some more though, it could be an easy way to make sure everyone is aware that changes are made.

This is a good point on why this shouldn't be implemented. This would only benefit active users on the website and would just fill up notifications and inboxes of people who aren't as active.

I can set it so that the alert will only send to users that have last logged in within the past x days, so perhaps I could set that to anyone who has logged in within the past 2 months or something like that, which would prevent spamming our inactive users.[DOUBLEPOST=1575688356][/DOUBLEPOST]If we did an alert, it would probably look something like this

As talking about xenforo permissions, you can surely make it not send an email to them, if you're planning on using a custom addon then ofcourse you can just ask the developer to not make it send emails on alerts.

Whenever we release a new announcement we tweet it and create a notice at the top of the site for a week or so afterwards, which I believe is more than enough. Sending mass alerts is clunky and will just annoy people in my opinion.

I'll move this to denied, thanks for the suggestion
