I didn't get coolorus free, I bought it after using the free trial. It's useful and works great, but not needed.

As for the brushes, some of them are paid for and some are just for a certain effect, not needed. I do however suggest downloading the JB Drawing Brush pack.

Well, I don't have any actual examples, but yeah I can make them.

I might draw an example this weekend. Although I may be more generous on the price to the first person that commissions me for one.
