I am looking to start a server and spend hundreds on advertising, etc. If this is the case would you guys recommend a Skywars or Faction server? I have been out of the game for a couple months and want to know what is popular these days and what you guys think could succeed if I were to put a twist on it. Again remember I will be buying or renting a slot.

I definitely suggest skywars, it's a bit more fun and short termed unlike factions. You can also add lots of variety to it also (luckyblocks, map crumble, etc)

No what I mean is, if im trying to make a good amount of money and keep a playerbase for the longest possible time and I am gonna pour hundreds of players onto the server, should I go with factions or skywars
Definitely factions if your looking at large scale advertising, skywars is more of a side-hub game. (It can make money quite nicely though)
HCF Factions and OPFactions are the 2 most popular factions types however, there are so many factions like this out there already if you don't get SOMETHING unique about it you wont get many players because they can all just go to the archon for op or HCF factions and they are always adding new things etc. So, You need something to stand out. However, If you make a custom SkyWars server you can get a lot of people as skywars is also quite popular as of right now. But, just like factions it has to have something unique about it. Custom plugins etc.. Otherwise you will waste your "Hundreds" of dollars on advertising and get very few people.. Also, SkyWars you need a solid player base to get it going to begin with.. So, If it was me I would go with either OpFactions or SkyWars. (P.S. I play OpFactions on TheArchon and I'd love to try a new OpFactions server. Perhaps one with ranks that don't cost a arm and a leg.)
Thanks for the detailed response. Yet I am still so conflicted on what to do. What I am worried about for SkyWars is that you need a constant 20+ players online for it to work at all, I know I could do this if I were to rent a slot but its still risky. And for the Faction server I can put a unique twist on it and I know it will gain a good amount of people through slot. I dont know
Im looking at it from a business point of view and what is viable. SkyWars is not viable because if you do not have at least 30 people on the server then people are just waiting in spawn to play.
I partially agree, I have a lot of fun on SkyWars servers. The way I plan to make mine would be very unique and have a more stats/competitive feel to them with lots of customizability per game and per person. But the only way it could succeed is if i have a slot for like a full month lol. If you join a empty SkyWars server 90% of the time your gonna leave.
At the point it already is my SkyWars has about 5x the customizability from Hypixel skywars. You earn points from killing/winning which can be used to purchase various different things cosmetic and helpful objects inside the game. Projectile trails, color of glass, items, etc.
No Its an existing plugin with much more features than most skywar servers out there
