Hosting - So we all know about hosting... Some people host servers from their computer, others host their servers from a server host like McProHosting. Hosting is the most important part for your server, meaning that you must have it 24/7 for players to enjoy the server whenever they want to. I suggest using starter hosts such as AnvilNode, ShockByte, etc... Once you have advanced and have gained more players and donations you should choose something like OVH which is difficult to setup. Once you have found your ideal hosting company go to the next question.
Plugins - Now every server needs some plugins, dont they? Yes they do, unless you are creating a server such as Survival and want absolutely no plugins that is fine by me and you can skip this question, but if you don't have a Survival server continue reading this question. As you all know some plugins are free and others are premium which means they are paid. One thing I suggest not doing is downloading your premium plugins from leaked forums. Once you have found all of your plugins and they fit your servers needs you can go onto the next question.
Staff - Now this is the most important part of your server. You must hire staff members to develop, control, and edit your Minecraft server. I suggest going on a Minecraft forums such as MinecraftForums, PlanetMinecrfat, and Minecraft Market. Make sure that you can trust all of your staff members before accepting them. Never give anyone access to your console unless you know them in real life. Once you have hired your staff members go to the next question.
Players - Now before you start advertising your server on websites such as Minecraft-MP you should firstly ask all of your friends to join your server. This will help because players will realize that other players are playing on your server... That means that the players will more likely play on the server due to the fact you have other players that are dedicated. Once you have contact all of your friends to start playing on the server go to the next question.
Advertising - So you are here, advertising! This means you go on websites and post your website for other people to join your server. Their plenty of advertising websites out there such as MinecraftForums, Minecraft-MP, Minecraft-Server-List, PlanetMinecraft, Minecraft Market, etc... Lastly, make sure you advertise at the 'prime-time', this means advertise after lunch and before dinner. Do not advertise at night! Once you have finished advertising you can go onto the next question.
Keeping Your Players - So once you have finished advertising and you have some players on make sure to make sure they stay. You can do this by creating updates and adding new features every day through a week. This will mean that your players will think that you are dedicated to creating a Minecraft server, which then means they will stay and play on your Minecraft server.
Donations - Finally, once you have been so successful and get donations make sure to spend them wisely. Things that you might want to purchase are better builds, a website, custom plugins, graphics, art, a server icon, etc... Make sure you spend the money on the server and not on some crap in real life, but occasionally you can spend some money for yourself.
