Don't be a money whore like almost every faction server now, where they do 90% "exclusive sales" every single day.

Make sure to have all dupe glitched fixed. As stated above smooth cannon jars are a must to be a successful cannon server as well trying to make yourself unique and put your own twist on something.

I have have some high quality professional faction setups I have made in the past. Would you like to take a look for some ideas? My biggest advice is to not overspend. There are so many people who go crazy and spend hundreds of dollars on a minecraft server. Set a budget and try really hard not to go over it. Starting out with a google doc or something of that sort with a plan really helps to keep you organized. Also don't worry about making a completely custom server. It will cost loads of money, and will most likely not be worth it in the end

The easies way to learn more about it, is to go on youtube pick a somewhat famous youtuber and watch some episodes. That will get you on the right track for most of what is going in that gamemode.

look at the top faction servers see what they have and what they do and what makes them stand out and just add all of them and make it better

Never do that, except in some really rare cases.

All servers work differently with different plugins and ways of playing. You kind of have to base the config around the server. My advice.
