I write to this community about an issue that I believe needs to be addressed; staff bias. Before I begin, no, I am not talking about everyone. Unfortunately calling people out would reflect poorly on my character. Hence, I’m simply going to stick to making a claim that expresses my views. Should you be in a state of disagreement, by all means, feel free to discuss it below.

I personally define staff bias as the unfair treatment of users due to their relationships with the staff, or previous reputation. I’m sure there are many of you out there who have felt neglected or punished unfairly. Yet, your voice has no influence on how you’re treated. The “report” button (on the bottom of all posts) rarely works when I click it, and you’d wonder why.

Here is a brief explanation of the case:

Recently there has been a small influx of semis appearing in the OG forum. It’s really obvious that the staff moderating the reports from that forum are aware of this, yet aren’t doing shit about it. I even reported some of the names, waited a few days, and I can confidently say they were just ignored. This matters because OG threads receive more publicity, therefore more potential buyers. I noticed that each of the account owners weren’t no namers in the community, but highly reputable.

I sniped the name “Drawn”, (high-tier semi, debatable og) not too long ago. After seeing the semis in the OG section, mine was good enough of a name to fit into that category as well. Just hours later it’s moved to the semi forum. Feel free to explain to me how that works? You have names such as “Laggy”, “Corsage” (very uncommon), “Venomous”. “Transcribe”, “Clauncher” (uncommon pokemon), “Godly”, and more in the OG forum, threads untouched. “Drawn” is supposed to be classified in the same manner as the words above. In fact, it has two meanings... What pisses me off is that the people who try to say something about this problem, without intending to trash a thread, are treated poorly by thread owners (who are aware they’ve posted in the wrong section).

Do not misinterpret my concern. To be clear, I have nothing against the account owners.

No, I did not make a whole thread on my personal problems. This is something bigger, because everyone has their own story. It might be regarding a suspension, ban, getting ignored through PMs, etc. I just told you all what sparked the need for this discussion. I am not calling for a whole staff reform. The purpose of this thread was rather to raise awareness or hold the staff accountable for an issue many of us want answers to. There's a lot more that can be said, but I'm tired and have work to do.

Thanks for reading~

The community is bias, not just the staff.
The staff just don't want to look bad nor do the members.

Fair points and hopefully this problem is addressed. :)

I just thought that 'to transcribe' as a verb would count as an OG, but tbh I could care less in which section it is. As long as I'm selling it :p

Hi Marth,

At the end of the day I don't think that the problem at all is about staff being biased, but rather the fact that there's no real definition of an 'OG' account or a 'Semi-OG' account, so this is up to the discretion of the staff member who is dealing with the report. It simply isn't possible for us to set up a definition for what an OG account would be and what a Semi-OG account would be, but if you feel that your account was moved when it shouldn't have been, don't hesitate to make a support ticket about it and we will relook at it.

getting ignored through PMs
If this was about me, I simply don't reply to PMs requesting support 99% of the time. My auto responder says that if it's for support you should make a ticket and that's just so that I don't have two separate queues of things to do and I'm not handling something a moderator could be doing when I could be doing administrative work.

Are there any other concerns you have that I missed?

Wow, I'm surprised that you addressed my concern. Thank you for that--and no it wasn't you (the pm). Staff discretion is where bias falls in. You're smart enough to distinguish obvious semi from OG, Mick. How are the above examples of names allowed in the OG forum whereas mine was moved at first glance?

I'm still surprised people think that staff should respond to PM's. It is pretty well known that PM's are only for extremely urgent issues that cannot wait for a support request. If you PM a staff about something that should be done through report or support request (AKA 95% of situations), expect to be ignored or told to make a report/support request.

I don't know. Please keep in mind that we get thousands of reports each month and they are all dealt with very quickly by the moderation team. It simply isn't possible for us to be correct with our moderation 100% of the time so even if we're right 99% of the time that's still dozens of potential mistakes made each month.

If you make a support ticket, which generally are thought about more and take longer to reply to, I'm sure you'll get a good response.
