I want to start a host. My neighbor went to college and dropped off some nice servers for free. I was wondering if i should host them at my home and get new wifi or how else could I host them. I can't sell them he said I must use them for something

No, do not start a hosting company over your home connection. Unless you have something like a gigabit uplink and a DDoS protection solution.

You need to look into colocation. Google it, should tell you what you need to know.

Do not home host. There are many reasons why. You are not a data center and cannot provide backup power solutions, multiple fiber lines and 24/7 security unless you are looking to pay a lot of money. I suggest collocating the servers if you want to do anything with them. Collocation can cost as little at $40/mo from what I've seen depending on the server and what you need. Ian.D can most likely offer you a great deal.

To be honest I have no idea. They r still in boxes and my parents wont let me use them until I improve my grades. I know my neighbor bought them from a 300 person company and they were very pricey 1k+ and he got a good deal[DOUBLEPOST=1487119759][/DOUBLEPOST]

Can you get specs or a model off the box?

Can be, depends on your server size, what you want (DDoS protection, uplink) and power consumption.

Home hosting even if you have a gigabit uplink is still a bad idea. You're electricity bill will increase substantially. And you don't have the same reliability as a DC. If the internet goes down, they have backup connections, similar story with power. If the power dies, they often have backup generators.

Colocation costs a bit, but its cheaper and more reliable in the long run, all things considered.

What are the specs? they might be worth co-locating but maybe not.

I can offer you colocation in Amsterdam, The Netherlands starting at 35EUR/month per U/1TB Bandwidth per server/1 IPv4 per server (5 IPv4 if you commit to 3 months, as well as a discount).
