Hello all,

Today am I enquiring on your opinions on starting up a server, I have previously opened quite a few servers that made a generous amount of income considering how much I originally put into them. Is it worth putting in, let's say £1k into creating and getting a server up and running, what are the chances of profiting and what budget would you recommend, or is it even worth it? I do have a passion for creating servers, so this is definitely something that I want to do with or without the profiting aspect.

Let me know your thoughts, I am genuinely curious.

I believe that you should have a perfect server setup before trying to make money from it. Get costume made plugins, get great staff, and lastly get a great hosting company that you can trust to keep you online. That all doesn't really come down to much money.

The rest should be spent on advertising since that's what matters. Hire a freelancer or advertise yourself. 1K can get you far regarding a good google ads campaign.

If you are going through with this plan I wish you good luck! Feel free to shoot me a message if you need anything :D

As much as I disagree with some of the things you have suggested, I think you missed the main question of my thread as I stated that I do in fact have experience in making servers in all aspects.

The main question which is very much directed to successful server makers with years of history is, is it even worth putting in £1,000 as a base budget to make a profit.[DOUBLEPOST=1605099054][/DOUBLEPOST]

And I think that answers my question, thank you haha

It depends. At first you must do the right choices and not find a ''developer'' who will make a server full of bugs, it will be worthless. But let's say that the server runs smooth. Then you need to do find good staff members, community managers etc. You can't make profit from a server with no staff. But I believe that Managing is very important. Even with a ''small'' budget, if the ideas are good, you can make profit.

Thank you, all the basic stuff isn't what I am talking about though and I'm not trying to get into specifics on this thread, I'll take away "Even with a ''small'' budget, if the ideas are good, you can make profit." from your response. Thank you for your genuine input! :)

Starting up a server genuinely is a difficult process if you do not have the experience needed to operate it. Even with a minimal budget in your hands, you'll be able to make profit off of anything you make based on the choices you make, such as who you hire for development, the way your managers work, the dedication & efforts of your staff team etc.

TD;LR: You can make profit off of any server, as long as you know how to operate it & are resourceful.
Thank you, straight to the point ;)

Hm, well, 1000 is a good amount. I guess, it depends... For a minecraft server probably yes. I would suggest investing into roblox instead, thats where the millions are.

What do you disagree with?

Sorry if I missed your question. To answer your question. If you are passionate about it I would definitely say it is worth putting in that money. I really wish you good luck! :D

Before thinking about investing money into a server, maybe you should start wondering about what may differentiate you from other servers, what will attract players and what will make them be loyal to it. Also, how will you do to be known ?

It is cool to be willing to invest, but first think about what the players’ needs are and how you may better their experience.

Yeah I agree with this 100%, its only a matter of time now before most of the current servers die out due a lack of variety from others and why so many servers now just fail because, they are all generic. Preferably think about something that HASN'T been done before/something completely unique even if that means completely changing how a gamemode such as Factions works and operates!

I understand that ROBLOXs' DEV-ex is very profitable if done correctly, thought it doesn't connect anywhere near with this. Minecraft & ROBLOX are two completely seperate games, with completely different systems as well as completely different methods of making profit. Anybody can create a profitable project with the main qualities one needs; passion, amibition, dedication, as well as investments both financially & time-wise.
Right okay, no shit, point was, Roblox is a much bigger market and far more profitable. Thats a fact and is not arguable.

Of course, I can agree on that, but this man is referring to something that's strictly MC-related, so I can't see how your comment could've helped. You're free to express your opinion though, which I'll respect. :D
Agreed, might as well talk about McDonalds while we are at it.
