So I had rented 3 servers from Shockbyte, a 1 GB, a 2GB, and a 5GB, and my 1 GB was a Bungee server. I decided I wanted to change it from the default "hosted by Shockbyte" logo and so I changed it. I think the first time I used a faulty one that didn't meet within the specifications, so it did nothing, and I let it be. The next time, I had a server icon I had made and so I stopped the server, dropped it in, deleted the old one, renamed it, and started the server. Then I start to get weird logs that are attached.

I wiped the server about 3 times, and finally I made a ticket with Shockbyte about the issue, on High priority. 6 hours passed, nothing. I get it, it was late in EST, so I decided to do their $3 Fast Track option that "pushes it to the front of the queue and alerts all staff agents". I was getting pretty desperate, mostly because I was in a meeting with a couple new admins I had brought on and I needed them on the server so I could give them their admin ranks. Alas, nothing.

Just from the looks of the logs, it seems like tha actual hard drive had run out of space! Wonderful!

As I'm writing this, about ~20 hours later with another post I added on the ticket, 0 response that would indicate that Shockbyte's support is alive. So at the end of the day kids, here's your lesson:
Don't change your server's icon with crappy budget hosts.
I kept my other two servers on Shockbyte, cancelled the 1GB Bungee one, and switched over to BisectHosting, who had my server up pretty quickly (fun fact: When I first bought my Shockbyte server I had to contact support to get it working because apparently "there was an error"). I transferred all my SQL stuff over, and I'm pretty impressed by the raw hardware and panel increase for just $.50 more. Of course, I could probably have a worse issue with BisectHosting 2 months down the line but eh. So far, so good.

High performance, consistent uptime and fast support. Minecraft hosting that just works.

Bisect is good. I'm with them but I think their premium servers is a bit pricey. I still pay it for the locations I want.

I also forgot to mention. I decided to repay for a suspended service on shockbyte and it didn't renew, I didn't care about the old server files I just wanted my service. So I contacted support and they said they can't renew a suspended service and that the only way to get a new server is to pay again as they don't offer refunds.

Yeah, the premium just isn't worth it for me. Montreal, Canada it is (seems like everyone from OVH to Bisect to Shockbyte hosts there lol).

That's an interesting case. What would be the benefit of renewing the suspended service?

Really cheap hosts can be found practically anywhere, the market is extremely over saturated. However, that doesn’t mean these cheap hosts will necessarily provide a quality service. It doesn’t surprise me in the slightest this happened.

I can agree with you. I bought a server from shockbyte and anvilnode (not knowing same company now) with the promise of "instant setup" from them. Incorrect! I ordered server 12+ hours, yet haven't received my multicraft credentials! Ordered an anvilnode server, hasn't been activated yet. Bought it today, 4 hours ago!
-1 for AnvilNode
-1 for ShockByte

I go with pebblehost, I don't pay for any special support plan and every time I've had a hitch (not with them, just me being a twink), I get instant support through their discord.

Better off with soyoustart dedicated host! 24/7 support. They are great with support and good for the price $35 and for 16gb of space! And pretty decent specs for a startup!

SoYouStart provides essentially no support unless there's an issue with their hardware or network. They're also literally anything but a startup - in case you haven't noticed, they're owned by OVH. They're selling OVH's legacy hardware. They're on OVH's infrastructure, with limited network capabilities.

You misunderstood. I meant for a startup server or network. $35 isn’t much. You can easily be making $35 a month doing things. And btw I’ve been with ovh for almost 6 years. They respond to all my tickets and emails within 4 hours. What kind of support would you expect besides for hardware or network? Just use the ovh support number for soyoustart. Never has taken more then a few hours to resolve any issues I’ve had.

As us in the Tech savvy area like to say there is a Triangle when it comes down to products, each corner is labeled 1.Cheap 2.Good 3. fast, now when purchasing the product you can only have 2 out of 3 labels, A lot of budget servers you will find only offer:

- Cheap & Good - Cheap pricing, Good hardware but slow tech support
- Cheap & Fast - Cheap pricing, Fast support but bad hardware

To get Fast & Good you will have to pay out a lot more, which not everyone can do unfortunately, it's a learning curb for many of us when we first start out on hiring server services :)

For the vast majority of users on forums like these, they do expect support above and beyond what OVH provides. It's simply a consideration to have in mind when you're considering a budget-oriented provider: they quite simply aren't going to have the same level of hands-on support as a more expensive provider.

And yes, I guess I misunderstood when you said "And pretty decent specs for a startup" - you might consider rewording that, lol.

I've gotten pebblehost ofc the best pricing for your service but my servers would randomly shut off.
I've had em a good year now, 2 servers for developing crap on and 1 for smp and the only times I've encountered anything similar is just 1.14 being a bit gay. Probably worth asking them about.
