I have an idea! Said Mark Zuckerberg probably. What about a Metaverse beer, a Metaverse world, a Metaverse universe. Here’s an idea for you, What about no. Do we actually need this and what is this? Why for Christ's sake should we give a data-hungry multi-billionaire even more data and even more control over the hell hole that we live in.
Can I just say this, it’s a placebo, a marketing scheme just to sell more $399 glasses to make your father figure real. Maybe I’m being a bit too harsh (I would never!) on Facebook and all the other metaverse world players. According to Wikipedia the major players of the metaverse hype is….. Facebook! - A data-driven dystopian nightmare known for not even being able to secure your data, Habbo Hotel - A kid's game known for having pedos and it’s bad graphics, Minecraft - A relaxing block game I guess. Now tell me how on earth these companies and frankly pretty unrealistic games are meant to replace the natural beauty that the world has. Go ahead and try. You can’t.
So what have these companies have done to advance apparently the future of the internet… a decentralized virtual communist utopia! First, off it isn’t going to be as the technology being used isn’t even that good, The backbone of this “next generation” of the internet is at best on par with our current technologies and at worst a downgrade from the current internet your reading or listening to this from. Let’s do a quick deep dive into the statistics of the backbone of web 3.0 Ethereum. First off 45% of Ethereum’s “Main net nodes” (Computers to connect to the network) are mainly centralized in the United States, compared to Germany’s 2nd place in node count at 13% of the Ethereum network. Doesn’t sound very decentralized, does it? It gets worse. Most Ethereum mining takes place in pools (A collection of miners) because it’s so unbelievably hard and time-wasting to mine by yourself just making the network even more centralized to a select few countries. And don’t even get me started on staking…. Which is pretty much a pyramid scheme if you take away the hype.
So you're telling me that this planet-destroying next generation of the internet is not actually that good? Yes, Yes I am. This decentralization talk is utter bullshit as the people who run the mining pools, the nodes and of course the creators of these non fuckable tokens and cryptocurrencies. Make huge stacks off of essentially poor people who are trying to make it out of the rat race to the bottom of employment. Now let me tell you a story of Putin crony Vitalik Buterin who’s made billions off your hard work and will continue to do so as long as this distant dream is kept alive, just because he gave himself hundreds of tokens upon launch for free, that makes him worth $116 million and that will continue to grow as the metaverse buzz word does.Now what does your $300k monkey jpeg actually do?
