I reckon if the proof is solid for either a positive or negative reputation, that it should stay.

The issue then is that the negative feedback is locked on your profile forever. Regular feedback left by users (who aren’t banned) can always be edited or changed in the future. For example, if I had a negative feedback, I could apologize to the person and attempt to right my wrong- however, as soon as the person gets banned, there is no chance they can ever change their review. I feel it would be unfair for the person receiving the negative feedback if they had no chance of ever correcting their behaviour and getting it removed by the OP.

That’s my main concern, because as soon as someone is banned, the feedback would essentially be locked there forever.

I’m just going to paste what I wrote on a similar thread on September 2019. First of all, I think this rep removal is ridiculous and on top of that it’s done in the most disorganized way possible. No transparency, no common sense, nothing. One day all of a sudden everyone starts getting their rep removed with no prior warning.

Also, I’ve seen numerous moderators say that some things are being worked on for the rep system and it it’s been two months. How hard can it be to add user submitted proof for old reps? Come on now, Xenforo development isn’t rocket science, especially not tweaking already existing things. Watch this be like the image proxy, where we are given a 24 hour ETA and it takes 6 months. I really wish this site was properly cared for and maintained.

“Completely setting aside opinions on rep removal itself, the whole thing is being done in the most disorganized way possible, but I am not surprised given the way things have been going on this site.

All of a sudden, seemingly out of thin air, it is decided (by Justis and perhaps like two other people) that banned member's +rep, even with proof, is removable and that old rep, even before the new system was added, will be removed as well. There is no warning, no announcement, absolutely no notice. One day, people just start reporting each other's rep and then before you know it, just about every active member is calling it out for the bullshit that it is. Then in an attempt to calm everyone down, we are told "We are working on x to do x automatically!". Except that should've been done BEFORE all this reporting nonsense began. The absolute least that can be done now is to wait until all these things we are being promised are released. I mean if it is actually going to happen, why not wait for it instead of pissing off every user by encouraging these stupid reporting wars?

The proper way to handle this would've been to first work out all the details, make a reasonable automated system, roll it out and mention it in an announcement. And give people a 30-day notice to add proof to old reputation after this ability is added. Currently the way of going about it is "Shoot now, ask questions later." It's completely unfair. The rep system has been around since 2016 and the proof requirement was only added at the end of 2018. Most of that rep has been there for up to 3 years and then all of a sudden, it is all removed in one day. "But you can add proof in the dispute PM!!!" - that is so ridiculous, rather than putting everyone through this slow and annoying process, do it the right way to begin with.

By being so disorganized and unreasonable, this site is losing the little credibility it had. Every other suggestion thread is calling for the undoing of this shitty system, people are constantly talking about how much they despise it on threads, chat, offsite, etc. But yet seemingly nothing is being done to mediate this. And yes, I get it, adding a solution is better late than never, but in the meantime, stop feeding into these rep reporting wars. Perhaps the damage is already done.

I sure hope I don't get a verbose response to this trying to justify it, because there is no way to do so. It is completely disorganized and the only way to go from here is to fix it, apologize to the community and move on.”

At the moment I'm going through a number of suggestions, and a lot of them were created regarding the reputation updates that we published and later rescinded. We now have a system where we consider some reputation to be 'legacy' and that reputation does not count toward reputation totals, and overall I feel like now a lot of people are satisfied with this system.

There were a tonne of suggestion threads created during this time, all with very valid criticism of our updates, and I believe that the reputation system we have now is even better because of that so thank you for that.

I'll move this to denied now, along with the rest of the suggestions made on this topic at this time, thank you.
