Knowing when and how to be professional is certainly a learned skill. Granted, the problem is typically that people are unprofessional in the wrong circumstance, but it can go both ways.

Knowing when to be professional can certainly feel like common sense to someone with strong social skills.
I did not start out in life with great social skills, and have spent a great deal of time and effort to get better. One of the things I spent a great deal of time actively working on was reading tones, is this conversation fun, professional, object oriented, et cetera.

It's not surprising MCM sees a high concentration of people who lack these social skills, we are at some fundamental level a gaming forum for teenagers after all.

I agree that being wordy helps no one.
Writing concisely is an important skill in business, one a lot of the community is missing.

I disagree that "nobody in the real world talks professionally" there are certainly circumstances in which speaking professionally is appropriate. Even with my friends, we will occasionally fall into a professional dialogue because the concise nature of professional speech can improve a conversations flow (like when discussing the new Star Wars movie or arguing about the future of a popular company).

It's all about the circumstance, sometimes, being professional can benefit a conversation, sometimes it hurts it, reading when to use which is the skill much of MCM lacks. Hopefully this thread brings enough attention to the issue that those who don't know how will put in the effort to learn.

The way you’re describing the word professional seems to emphasize that it is an extremely subjective word.

Does being professional mean to use formal tone? To sound smart?

Or does it mean to actually be competent at doing a job. To effectively process the task you were given with.

I would be inclined to agree with the latter over the former which feels to fit more with your post.

Of course it can be argued it’s a bit of both, or not, depending on your opinion.

When I meant nobody talked like that, it was people overdoing it and making sentences as complex as possible.

Use correct grammar and all but please don't go saying you're a "Director", "CEO" or "Entrepreneur".

I got kicked from a “professional business” Discord after somebody said “I run my own company at 15, what’s stopping you?” and I laughed, so apparently that was unprofessional of me.

Apparently if you have a few friends, create a Discord, and make a thread on MCM, you suddenly have a company and can distribute corporate ranks amongst your friends so your resume is filled with CEO and CFO ranks.

Lmfao.

Alright can people on this site quit speaking out of their ass? It's weird and annoying seeing a bunch of teenagers speak like they're at an HR meeting and posting on threads like it's an email.

It's time to stop. :mad::mad::mad:
I agree with this post a lot but I kind of have to. I need to cover my ass against people like Fawks and Monarch who stalk me here. I feel if I talk in HR/Super Business-ey speak, I consider my words more carefully. If you've ever been in a call with me, you'll see how chill I really am.

It's a Minecraft server, you'll see I don't call myself CEO or something like that. I founded it, I own it.[DOUBLEPOST=1580415636][/DOUBLEPOST]

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with acting professional or using proper grammar. The problem arises when individuals don’t understand that there’s going to be times where you’ll have to behave in a professional manner and other times where you won’t.

As for these self-proclaimed “titles”, let me pitch a scenario:
I round up five of my friends and we decide to setup a lemonade stand. I decide to hell with it, this lemonade stand is going to be the forefront of my new company. So I claim ownership of the lemonade stand and bestow upon myself the title of CEO. I then promote my five friends to various positions within said company. At the end of the day, we make $200 and go about our separate ways.

Now let’s analyze this story here:
-The company I “created” was never legally registered
-I never endured great financial risks
-The positions held by me and my friends are only recognized by our friend group
-This lemonade stand wouldn’t have enough merit to even be considered on a resume by an employer

Now, let’s translate this to how many of the users who claim titles such as “CEO” go about their business dealings:
-The vast majority of the “companies” on Mc-Market aren’t legally registered, and are therefore not real
-The titles you give yourselves are only recognized by you and those who are moronic enough to follow you
-There’s no way in hell any of these self-proclaimed CEOs would ever put their fake companies on a legitimate resume for the sake of avoiding utter embarrassment and there’s no way in hell an employer would ever acknowledge their companies as legitimate

The point I’m trying to get at is that the vast majority of users who claim to have experience as high ranking business managers aren’t who they claim to be.

They honestly have just as much merit as children running a lemonade stand in the side of the street.

When you're an actual business owner, watching this thread go down in flames.

This is fun.[DOUBLEPOST=1580420698][/DOUBLEPOST]

Okay so the 2-3 pages on this thread was actually funny. It's not even enjoyable to read this 11 page argument of never ending shit.

No I didn’t. I got kicked for the same reason two other people did. They kick anybody that is “discouraging” or laughs at other people and their work. I laughed at Alistair and got kicked.

Why'd you put discouraging in quotes?

As a professional mineman I take great offense to this post. Would appreciate if the toxicity lowered from a 10 to a 1, it's not my fault I'm better than you.

Hey mate! I just can't seem to remember asking your opinion on how I address things. But I'll remember to make you the first person I contact if I ever end up caring.
