I'm sure you have noticed, it really got started way back when Pennzly (Penzzly? Pezzly? Pennsylvania?) was a thing. After a while of them going around people got fed up and someone decided to make a thread tearing down some of their practices.

Since then, the trend has only gotten worse.

1.6.1 Do not post content whose sole purpose is to degrade or disturb the peace of another member or person.

This rule has been in place for a very long time, yet it is widely disregarded. Since then, it seems as though almost daily another user is slandered, it may be someone like Lyphiard trying to sell his sniper on a fairly innocent contract clause or another user like Kylew who has been mercilessly bombarded not condoning just pointing out on all sides. These matters have systems in place already (reputation system, reports system, scam reports system) yet users still go out of the way to attack these users.

Counters:
But the public needs to know about the user's fowl practice!
- Negative rep them addressing your concerns instead of publicly attacking them.
+ But they'll negative rep me back!
- Report it.

But threads get more attention?
- Who are you trying to put the spotlight on? A negative rep will be seen by everyone who sees the user, they just don't see you.

Staff need to crack down on these abusive attack threads so that users can feel safe that they won't be publicly humiliated if one user does not like them.

Staff already handle these types of things, it's just a matter of if you report it or not.
1. Report them
2. Done
I'm well aware that the staff already handle this, however the community as a whole seems to help push these attacks along and spotlight them even more, bringing the concept to more and making it seem OK. That is why I call for stricter moderation, which starts at a community level, this is to bring more attention to issue, not neglect the problem.

Hmm? Justis R just spent a long time answering those reports merely a few hours ago; They don't go unseen, and I can assure they're dealt with quicker than most say.
But staff rarely look AT reported rep.

So... are you going to provide a solution or are you just going to tell the staff to figure it out on their own?

I've provided a solution, to enforce it harder. But staff are stretch thin, and my hope is that the community will become more aware of these violations in attempts to kill the trend.

Do you mean a stricter punishment? Because if it's already being handled when Staff sees it, I don't see how they can be more strict on it.
it's being handled, but staff can't easily view every single thread that gets posted. The community as a whole needs to see it, you have to understand that the forum isn't simply moderated by the 10 man team it has, it is a community project to ensure the site stays clean. Community engagement with the rules determines which are followed and which are broken, if a rule is disliked by the community as a whole, it is bound to be broken. But this rule is one that isn't one that most logical people disagree with, and thereby it just needs engagement for the enforcement to become stricter.

Since this thread was posted I believe that we've done a better job at moderating these sorts of trashing posts. If you do see them in the future please report it and it will be dealt with by one of the lovely moderators.

Denied, thanks for the suggestion.
