Subscription Resources

It would be great if premium resources could setup a payment method that was a subscription. For example: I could charge like $3/month instead of $15 lifetime that I do right now on Spigot. This would be huge and help some larger, more stable / long term projects be able to consistently make money.

There are no addons that do this as of the last time I checked so it would need to be built. I understand that it's no small undertaking. Given that, I think it would be huge for the plugin community.

Yes, this is the way that licenses do work with products like xenForo.

If I'm going to implement this I think we're just going to do yearly subscriptions though, having users pay each month for a resource just doesn't seem reasonable and realistic. drtshock, thoughts?

Yes, considering most resources that would use this feature would be ones consistently updated with new features and would be worth staying subscribed to. If they were not going to have continuous updates they wouldn't be subscription based.

An account upgrade? There are no plans to do this, and besides it would be much cheaper for ban evaders to just pay for a small subscription since otherwise they’ll be caught, etc.

Eh it depends. For a project like FactionsUUID where I'm constantly providing support to people in discord and github, as well as adding new features based on request, monthly is reasonable. Though I would agree that FactionsUUID is more of the exception in that regard than the rule. I'd prefer the option to set our own time period and have to decide for ourselves what works best, knowing that someone could just sub for a month to get the update and then cancel. Which to be honest, is fine with me. Would force me to push out an update at least once a month

It sounds like a good idea. What would be nice is something like a set purchase price and then a different price for updates/support.

I think its better like:
3 Months Subscription
6 Months Subscription (5% Disccount)
12 Months suscription (10% Disccount)

Why not allow the resource owner to define the time period and pricing? They can then go ahead and setup something like this exactly how they want it But keep in mind that a monthly sub means you pay $x every 30 days, not paying it all upfront so your way of doing things would be difficult unless they added in functionality for it.

I would like this but only if the price had to be approved by staff. Having an outrageous price for a small resource would be ridiculous.

Then no one will buy it... Maybe just set an absolute max. But I don't see why I shouldn't be allowed to have like a super premium version of Factions for a select few large servers that's $100/month or something.

There are plans to implement this (or something like it) in the future, but if we are to make this change it will be a part of our next resource update. I like making updates in batches on the site, so rather than getting 20 custom addons developed for resource improvements they'll all be added together. A resource update probably isn't as much of a priority as a reputation update, so it'll probably come after that.
