So I wanna start a survival server, not for profit though. I don't want to have many plugins, if any. What do yall think?

I usually prefer Semi-Vanilla survival the best. Essentials with maybe a few extra plugins to spice things up. Having some sort of communities plugin to invite friends to and claim land for whatever I will call home. I also like it when consent for PvP isn't around.

So:
  • Land claim plugin
  • Communities plugin (like clans sorta thing?)
  • Free PvP allowed

What particularly do you like from Essentials?

Have some rpg element to it with ranking up or something. Have some sort of claiming to prevent grieifing and make every area except for like a 50 block radius from spawn as pvp. Makes it more interesting if i can walk into peoples houses and kill them.

No, this adds a faction-y feel, and takes away from a more classic-y vanilla feel.

This I can agree with, it makes sense, and I was sorta planning on it.

This'd just cause a decrease in players because they'd feel demotivated every time they got killed.

So pretty much you want a survival server with no pvp in peoples claims? The idea of having pvp everywhere including in people's houses makes the survival aspect of the server better imo because people have to worry about getting jumped.

I fully agree with this, however what if you logged off one night and got on then all your work was lost? Or someone was camping waiting and hoping someone got on soon? That'd just ruin the experience for them and they wouldn't want to work themselves up again.

My idea is being able to toggle PvP in your claim (of course not in the middle of combat), but I can't think of any plugin that would be capable of doing this.

What i mean is that the only thing that others not apart of the claim could do is attack you and open doors. They wouldn't be able to break anything or open anything just attack people and open doors in the base therefore all you lose is whatever is in your inventory. So in the end you wouldn't lose everything.

Interesting, so PvP is allowed, but they can't actually open a door or chests? I'll consider it, it's a nice idea.
Thanks for your input!

Mainly just the convenient features of being able to set warps and tp. It gets really annoying having to walk back and forth from one important area to the next over and over again. It just makes things so much easier.

What important areas are you thinking about? At most all I could think of was a spawn :p

Important areas made by individual users themselves. Say I'm on a little mining trip and I have to walk back to my home for the next 30 minutes or so, having the ability to set homes and even warps makes things much more convenient. Alongside that yeah, having warps to spawn or any other important areas you might build for the server would be nice too :)

Probably gonna allow players to set a max of 2 homes, and then a /spawn. Might see if I can find a plugin that allows users to make one warp themselves, but sorts it into a category. I was thinking of allowing players to set shop warps for other players to buy stuff from them.

That'd be neat. I'm kinda 50/50 on having actual monetary currency in survival servers from shops because users tend to find ways to abuse the hell out of it and on top of that people become greedy and don't want to work together on stuff.

https://www.spigotmc.org/resources/pwarp-playerwarps-gui-easy-set-up-active-dev.64542/
This allows charging of items, prevents trap warps, max warps, viewing warps, counting visits, command to move a warp, sorting by popularity (visits), and public/private warps

I feel as you should have free PVP as well. If you end up logging off and someone attacks and "griefs" your home oh well. That's a part of the whole surviving aspect. I loved playing on semi-vanilla servers where pvping was allowed and maybe a little shop where I could buy or sell but nothing to op. Good luck with server either way. :)
