TaigaChat vs Chat by Siropu

Hello all.

As I'm sure that most of you who have been in the community for over a month would know, a while ago we tried out a different shoutbox for a little while which was Chat by Siropu instead of the regular TaigaChat that we had been using before that point and are currently using now. When we used Siropu's chat (further called 'Chat' for simplicity), the community disliked it with the mentality of 'if it's not broken, why try to fix it?' and I believe this is no longer the case.

TaigaChat is severely lacking in numerous features that Chat has and the reason that this was never known by the community was because I released the shoutbox before it was fully functional, which is completely my mistake to do out of my eagerness for change. Below is a list of features that Chat has that TaigaChat doesn't, and I hope that you will agree that the pros in this scenario outweigh the cons.

Chat by Siropu:
Pros:
- Custom made chat rooms
- Ability to change where the shoutbox is displayed (facebook-styled, above the forums, sidebar, etc)
- Top chatters list (to see who is the most active in the shoutbox)
- User tagging (which is only available in TaigaChat with an addon)
- Private whispering command
- Kick users from your chat room
- Enable/Disable bbcode buttons (bold, italic, underline, strike-through, image, quote, etc.)
- Incredibly amazing administration and moderation capabilities that allow for automatic unbans after a period, the ability to report shoutbox messages, and more.
- Built-in (and much better) support for shoutbox logs for the staff to review

Cons:
- Takes a little while to get used to
- May be slightly less user-friendly to use the settings panel (as there are more options)

On this thread is also attached a poll, I would really appreciate it if you could vote for your opinion on there and leave a post below about how you would feel about us changing back to Chat once again. (This time it will look good, too!)

We may create a trial period of a week or so for Supremes to use both shoutbox add-ons and tell us what they think potentially.

I was the one way back long ago who created that post demanding for a switch back to TaigaChat. Now that I hear it, the other chat does sound sweet. I'm just reluctant to change from TC because it's the only shoutbox addon I've ever used.

Maybe 2 shoutboxes? 1 for only supremes and test it that way?

It's more advanced. On paper, Siropu's has more features. It is appropriate for sophisticated communities. The shoutbox here is simply a trollbox, so the current one (TC) is probably best fit for your needs.

Since it will be easy to report content, I think it won't take long until users notice this. I made this thread to post my reasoning about what is good and what is bad about Chat by Siropu. If there is backlash from a few users of the community, then I'm sure that they will get used to it within a week and that everyone would prefer the new shoutbox over the old one.

Unfortunately, what the community is comes down to its members. An add-on won't change average maturity levels or anything. I prefer Siropu's add-on, although it is uglier and less user friendly. I have licenses to both and use both regularly, too. Siropu's is cool but is going to need custom styling and removal of features to be suitable here, at the least.

As is, it's too advanced anyway.

I'm definitely all for the new chat! It sounds much better than what we have now features wise, I've never used it so I'm not sure how reliable it is etc. But right now, I'm all for 'chat'.

Like a personal Shoutbox for u and someone u want to talk to?
Im a bit confused.

You can whisper to a user which is private to them, and then you can also create a private chat room to talk to someone.
