Because a lot of the time it helps people deal with their problems, or come to terms with their emotions.

I really like this track. It's extra sad if the song corresponds to a real event. The very first song I listed was VNV Nation - Illusion. It was written in response to the murder of Sophie Lancaster

That's very true, I personally enjoy the music but live a good life. Nothing's wrong with the genre itself and whatever any of the kids above do in their spare time, is their time. Not anyone else's unless they make it that way.
