Hello everyone,

First of all, before I even TYPE anything, I realize that this is a marketplace. I realize there's lots of people using this website, and in those people there are tons of people who are have friends or they host servers themselves. I would like to request the unbiased opinion of only customers/server owners, and not the opinions of the hosters themselves.

What is the best server hosting available as of 2017 in these categories?

-The best BUDGET server hosting? (that is still somewhat good, it's not a cheap random server hosting site that only 5 people use and is unreliable)

-This is the most important question to me as I want to make a KitPvP or possibly a practice server, which server hosting provides the best connection-related stuff? (I don't know all about it, but it should have the fastest connection?, good ping and latency, good kb and hit detection, good connections for players worldwide, everything that an essential PvP server needs to attract some good players.

Note: I am not sure if the place I live compared to the where the server is hosted affects ping + latency or how fast and smooth the server is, but if this helps I live in Seattle, WA.

If you live close to the server's hosting location does it help?

Thanks for helping me answer those two questions.

I'll include our specs if you're interested:

Anvil: Dual Xeon E5-2670
Gold (New York): Xeon E3-1240v5
Gold (Amsterdam): Xeon E3-1275v5

The Gold plans use latest generation CPUs so there's no much room for improvement. All machines are equipped with SSD, premium DDoS protection, and daily backups--Gold servers get backed-up twice per day.

Thanks, hugh

what is the Anvil plan? Also is that a downgrade from an E5 to an E3 for the gold?

Anvil is our budget line of servers. Not a downgrade at all--E3's have a higher clock speed and score better when it comes to single thread ratings.

Thanks, hugh

Hello! Another question, how good is AnvilNode in terms of good latency/ping/connection? I aim for a PVP related server, and nice kb + hit detection is key. Do you have any form of proof or something to tell me to show that you offer this certain quality better than others do??

We've got test servers you can ping. Try:

Gold
ny.anvilnode.com
ams.anvilnode.com

Anvil
dal.anvilnode.com
nya.anvilnode.com

Thanks, hugh

Thanks, I'll do that when I have time. I will stick with Fallout or AnvilNode, going to decide by tonight.

Not to put other companies to shame but...lets play the system security game! And some extra stuff too I guess. Kappa
Vulnerable to bruteforce attacks and potential security breaches

- At least they have some nice servers.
- DDoS Protected
- Great prices
Vulnerable to bruteforce attacks and hacking
fallout.png

- Never used them, but I hear it's good
- DDoS Protected
- Owned hardware
- Really nice prices
Protected from most bruteforce attacks
accessdenied.png

- Randomized SSH port, changed every single day, virtually impossible for attackers to use algorithms to figure it out. If our systems detect that a failed login attempt occurred, a script is run to automatically change the port.
- Randomized username : Root access is no such thing on our servers, we randomize the superuser's username and password
- DDoS Protected
- All ports are protected and attackers are automatically blocked using firewalls once an attack is detected
- Any attacking IPv4s are automatically reported to multiple blacklists to prevent other attacks on a global scale.
- We use a three programs to monitor our systems and report attacks. Together, they create a failsafe and a massive amount of security improvements on our servers.
- I personally execute everything done on the servers, no technicians, little to no risk.
- Owned hardware for the most part
- Great prices

Anvilnode , FalloutHosting step up your security game Kappa So uh, what do you guys have to say?

Now I don't inside or work for or with AnvilNode or FalloutHosting, so I can't give the full story obviously.

So, because you SSH into their Web Server it's unprotected . It probaly doesn't have any vital information you could do anything with. Jayson, you're smart and all but slow your roll. These guys know security they've been in the game before you even looked at it. Fallout is a legit company ran my Dot-Tech LLC. I'm pretty sure they know what security is.

It allows bruteforce attacks, a potential security issue. A bruteforce attack allows hackers to repeatedly try passwords, and without protection they have an unlimited number of tries. AnvilNode and Fallout are running on the default port. Not really web servers though, I was going to try Fallout's Minecraft IPs but couldn't find any test servers, I used AnvilNode's test server. Didn't use the actual IP for privacy of the companies.

Yea, I personally use that, but with DenyHosts and one custom item on top of that, randomizes the port daily with crontab and emails me the port :) Attack detected, port is changed after 5 failed attempts and i'm emailed.

It's kind of on my personal virtual desktop run on the dedicated server as a VPS :? SSH disabled on that. Runs on CentOS 7, slow but hey it's nice. There's a mail server run on it. Only I use it. If I ever seemed to loose access, it actually uses a premade list. Sure my setup can be more secure, but that's overkill for the current status.

Sorry but your post above is incredibly stupid. I hate to post this because I know it'll start a petty argument but just because someones SSH port (non-default) is accessible doesn't mean the server is "accessed" or vulnerable as you act like it is. I'm sure there are plenty of smaller hosts here or out there somewhere who have some vulnerability that can be easily exploited, but it's not a common thing.

I'll pay someone $500 to get root access to one of my servers and report it. Here's my public status page if you want a list of server names. :)

Although the chances of a hacker gaining access are slim when the password is secure enough, there is still an implied risk. Most attacks just use port 22. Anyways, lets end that conversation.
