Spoofing isnt really an issue, unless its a HUGE boost. So turning 50 to 60~ isnt an issue IMO. since more players = more ppl willing to join. So 1k players spoofing to 1.2k isnt an issue IMO.
Totally! I like the thought. However the question remains of why they do it. You may argue it's to attract players, but others may argue it's to increase revenue as people think that there is more competition then there is. A lot of point of views on the topic, what do you think? It's not the actual lie I have a problem with, it's the fact they didn't earn it and shouldn't display something that is fake (in my opinion). It's almost a diss to honest servers who don't spoof and earn their players.
I know 1 of the owner of MineSuperior ( Kenny / Epicgamer ) and he is a great guy. I have no idea why they would spoof. Sadly BMC ( his other server ), I went to look at playercounts and it was spoofed. I have no idea why they would do that. I was able to do 250~ on factions release after 6 months of owning a server. So it shouldnt be too hard to build a solid network with time, money, and connections.
I don't think it's about the rep or anything. I think these chaps have a good idea what makes money and spoofing somehow correlates with it. (my opinion).
I think it goes a little past that, but possibly for some people.
