Hi,

To introduce myself I'm 16 and I have been playing the game for god knows how long. I quit a while back and I recently even tried to sell my account.

I used to own a Minecraft server about 2 years ago. I didn't have more than 100 players that played actively but I did make my money back so I'd consider it semi-successful. Anyways, I've been bored lately and I know that the game has been slowly becoming less popular so I wanted to know more about whether there would even be a chance that a new server would get players.

If I were to start one what type of server should I create?
My last server operated off a budget of $500, would I need more than that now?

I'm still trying to decide whether this would be something worth doing. Let me know!
Thanks,
Steven

$500 is a good budget to get setup with custom builds, etc. It'd get about 20-40 players active if advertised right. A lot of people play for money now in competitive gamemodes e.g skyblock, factions.

Thanks for replying!
I was reading some other threads and the general consensus is that if you do it correctly, starting a Minecraft server currently is not an awful idea. Creating the actual server is not a problem, and I'm pretty sure I could get that down to $100-$150 if I wanted to. The real make-or-break thing for the server would be the advertising. Last time I owned a server I used YouTubers for the most part, and it worked for some time but it ended up being the downfall of the server. Is that still the way to go or should I be looking into new ways of advertising? Again, thank's for reaching out and I appreciate your reply.

Youtubers & Discord Advertisements - Also server qualities is important for these to work

I would (personally) spend 350$ on development and then 150$ on advertising/youtubers. Although it's up to you :D
