idk how many of you guys know that the account "_" was a thing in 2012
but it did exist and got changed to "space12345" recently idk why it wasn't on namemc for a while i think it got deleted from the system or something
anyway if you go on mcskinhistory you can see the account actually had the name but it's been removed does anyone have a clue what happened to it and who owns it and why it got changed?

Wouldn’t put it past Mojang to retroactively remove names like these under the radar.

The account contained the letter "u" in the UUID, which makes it an invalid UUID. NameMC glitches when displaying accounts like this - fruity_cake, previously 1, also had "u" in the UUID. Mojang reset both UUIDs due to a Mojira bug report that was made about these accounts, but you can see the old UUIDs on MCSkinHistory. Took them a while to add 1 to fruity_cake's name history, but they did, and then they completely removed _ and renamed it.

Yup. We don't even need to consider putting it past them, User recently reported on an invalid purge that took out most of them. I don't know if _ was part of it, but it proves that Mojang does rename these, at least in some cases. I doubt that it's specifically out of mean-spiritedness though. It probably at least partially has to do with what one two three was saying.

Only took out the A's and early B's, and from those, only space characters. Rest of them are still going strong.

Could be that they purged because of an angry server admin noticing that a spaced account could cheat, or the fact that it's impossible to get the UUID of a spaced account with the GET /users/profiles/minecraft/<name> endpoint. Edit: could also be because of the recent reporting of certain accounts to Mojang. Not sure how Bas B was reported since that one was literally unknown to anyone (although was cached on NameMC before it was purged).

Also edit: There are, like, tons of these names that we haven't found yet. If you have lists of old non-premium invalids, you'll see how random these names can get, so I doubt they'll ever be found unless a specific endpoint is found, or Mojang releases a list of names themselves. Even with said endpoint, Mojang's ratelimits would make it take days, maybe weeks, to grab the full list.

_ was for sure changed because of the invalid UUID, there were multiple Mojira threads mentioning it, and when you tried to get its head as a player head in game, the game would completely crash.
