Hello there MCM,

I have always loved setting up new servers and I am thinking about making a new server in the near future, but there is a few things I need to know before starting my project.
So I have a couple questions for you regarding Minecraft servers and how to grow them:
  • What gamemodes are most popular atm?
  • What is the best way to advertise on a small budget?
Might not seem like a lot, but enough to let me get started on ideas. If you have any other ideas please include them or shoot me a PM :)

I would say factions but its too overrated. I would say to make a KitPvP or Skyblock server, as they are more simple and easier to play around with if you became new at server hosting.
Alright, thanks!

Well really, the gamemodes everyone looks for are stuff like factions, prison and so many more but that means your server is limited to that and there is so much competition, servers like hypixel and many others brought themselves away from the generic stuff and created new gamemodes or revamped pre existing gamemodes. Like if your going to make a factions or prison server offer something loads of servers dont have. Like a exclusive item or a new pvp system or some type of enchantments which can change the gameplay experience for your server playerbase. But for advertising try advertising on forums like spigot and here, and identify whats important about your server and what can drive players to your server. Like try and contact youtubers to come and play for access to some free items for them and for the viewers, the more views they pull the more your server can get popular. But dont try and become your fav mc server try and drive yourself away from the plain stuff and actually offer something players havent already seen or something that isnt used that much and turn it into a key role or something like that
