The use of 'custom' in server advertisement

Over the years I've noticed that the use of the word 'custom' has been used a lot in the advertisement of servers, its something that I always thought was a very positive thing for servers to do, potential players would see that words custom and think that a lot of time had gone into the development process of a server.

It was a few months ago when an uncle type figure visited, we talked and he brought up his work for a phone company, something that he was very proud of was that the phone company was unlike others and that it did not rely on mass-market technology to function and that they invested heavily in their own software and technology. The word that he used was 'custom', I thought on that for a while and came to the conclusion that as someone who was not part of the workings of the company I didn't really care that they had 'custom' technology, to me I was only interested in how well it functioned.

How does this all fit into place and where am I going with this?

I wanted to talk about the use of 'custom' in servers, trailer specifically. When I see it used in a trailer or when a server puts it in their announcements or to be frank any of their advertisement I tend to think that it devalues what else they are working on, when they put great emphasis on one feature it seems to me as if everything else that isn't advertised as 'custom' is just same old plugins everyone is using. It makes the server seem a bit less unique as they put great emphasis on single plugins.

I agree, though, because a server has a unique plugin, it's therefore kinda custom. This would be a hard rule to implement, because sadly ideal ideology is not that every plugin must be custom.

I wouldn't use the term rule as people are entitled to do as they please, I just think it devalues the other plugins a server has when they focus on a few minor ones that are 'custom' as they would put it

Yeah, I can see that. That's a shame maybe more tags? like Complete Custom or C-Custom. S-Custom (Semi-custom) and so on?
