So as some of you may have seen, I was hacked on Thursday. This was one of the scariest things and the most important things that has happened to me, I'd say.
So here's a little breakdown of what happened:
I was casually just playing some Overwatch when my phone started buzzing like crazy. I tapped on the screen to see that the recovery email address had been changed on my account. Obviously I instantly Alt-Tabbed out Overwatch and went on my Gmail. I had probably 3 other emails showing changed emails on 2 of my Gmail accounts and my MCM account. I went on the "Secure Account" bit at the bottom of the email and extremely quickly changed my password before the person locked me out completely, which was of course the intention of the whole changing the reset email thing.
Because I was so damn fast, this means I now have the IP address of the person who was doing it. They weren't even using a VPN! xD (Muahaha)
I wasn't so lucky with my MCM account. Passwords had been changed, emails had been changed, the lot. After about 20 minutes of just thinking about what to do and changing all my email passwords and whatnot, I made an new account and posted in the support thing that I'd been hacked. I spent the next hour or so just refreshing my account page to see what the person was doing. Going from forum to forum, talking to people. I was so worried at this point.
Thankfully Doge replied in about an hour and banned my account to stop anything else happening. As I later found out today, even just an hour was almost 4 or 5 people scammed.
I maybe went to sleep at 3AM that night, and since I'm in the UK, I had school the next day. It was only a half day since it was the last day of the school year, but I was absolutely exhausted. Emotionally and physically. I spend the whole day pondering if they'd logged into anything else.
I'm really surprised that they only went for my MCMarket account. I had so many other things with the same password, haha. Obviously now all my passwords are completely different, and 2 Step is on for almost everything.
Today BeBosny replied to the support thread and got my account back to me. I'm amazed at the speed that I got support, considering how massive this site is. Really awesome.
In conclusion, enable 2-Step for everything, absolutely everything. If you don't have a good phone, make a specific email that you use for nothing else with a really strong password that is just for verification. Even if you can't be bothered to do that, use some password manager, like the one in Avast, for example, to generate secure passwords, and save them, on every site. I'm sure there are loads of guides to help stay safe online, and I don't want to give an E-Safety lesson.
Overall I really appreciate the support of the MCM staff, and I'm just glad that no money was stolen from people. I'm also glad that this hack happened to me now, instead of when I could possibly be earning millions or whatever, and lose loads of money.
P.S: If the person who hacked me is reading this - I have your home IP address and your email. Watch out.
