Anyone ever thought that the impersonator is really just the MCM member with a fake account so that they could still scam people on the side but maintain their reputation on the site simultaneously

Why would you be asking this? Could you be one of these said impersonators?

I mean that's always a possibility, but it should not change your actions. ALWAYS verify directly with the member themselves through any and all confirmed channels.
If they ARE using a fake impersonator account, they won't confirm. If they DO confirm, and then proceed to scam you, you've got evidence that they're using a fake impersonator account.
So, simply put, no need to worry about this because it won't change the outcome. The only way in which this would ever be relevant is if you're foolish enough to not confirm someone's identity before dealing with them.

I've actually always had this on my mind. I'm not saying I would ever do it or support anyone doing it, but I'm always imagined scenarios of this, how easy it'd be to get away with this. For all we know, really well known members on the site could be scamming people with imposter accs.

A user did this to me and I still have a scam report open after like 2 weeks and nothing has happened and I still think he is activley trying to scam vunruble users. He confirmed by liking a profile post of mine which he could easily remove. He has lots of rep and has been onsite since 2015 it's a shame but this is true, big rep people do this to try and make a quick buck from new users.

it wouldn't surprise me, sadly. Too many 'big rep' users on here have done 100+ tiny deals worth maybe $1000 collectively, if not less. It's one of the main downsides of numerical rep systems, but there's nothing to be done about it. If you sell 100 discord bots for idk, $10 each and get a +rep for each one, you can easily scam for another $1000 if you want.
I assume they've had a -rep from you with a link to the pending scam report?

I was suspended for unrelated reasons at the time and actually haven't just in fear of them revenge neg repping me and them getting banned, and on this site false rep doesn't get removed. I commented on their posts selling items warning users about the scam report though.

Difficult. I'm not a staff member anymore, so I won't speculate or get involved, but that sort of thing is why I've mostly withdrawn from the site. I still hang out here again of course, but it's never gonna be my main business hub again.

Idk I’ve just become a bit speculative because I’ve seen people who aren’t really popular around here claim to have impersonators. I do acknowledge that it may be the case, but I have a hunch that some of these “impersonators” are really just the MCM user.

But yeah, verifying beforehand is the way-to-go, but I’m sure that these people are still able to get away with it. Maybe they don’t make a shit ton from it, but they still probably make a quick buck from it.

Glad to know I’m not the only one. It seems so easy that it’s scary. Shame no ones really brings it up :/
