Thinking of making a skyblock server

Hi,

I'm thinking of making a skyblock server. What are features you haven't seen in a skyblock server you would like to see? What are common features you see on modern skyblock servers (I haven't played alot). Is there anything else of note for developing one?

Custom Items & Custom Enchants, and also some grind-type would be cool, not typical skyblock where the baltop is the most important and the level of the island, it would be more cool If u have to grind to be good

I like the grinding idea and was gonna do smth like that. Same with custom items. Anything specific to grind for? Obv custom items and gear but anything else and any other way to determine is top or still go off is value?

Well, grind off for skills that gives you better stats, that would be cool as well. So, each "skill" has it's special ability or a stat upgrade such as armor or i dont know, attack damage maybe. There would be a limit level like 30-50, every 5th skill upgrade would have a minor prize and every 10th would have major prize ( it could be a custom item, or a lot better stats like +15 attack damage for major and +5 for minor, +2 for each normal tier upgrade, or even money? ). Some type of story or missions would be great to see on the server as well.

I've seen it before but I think having Quests, a decent amount of them, with fairly good rewards is a good idea. It kind of links into the "grind" type of aspect of it all. Players will have to work hard to receive rewards and of course the harder the quest the better the reward is.

You could also add a dailyrewards plugin, so players are eager to join on a daily and receive rewards. Maybe do a months worth and then reset? And at the end of the month have it so they get a free rank or something.

I like the idea of a free rank for logging on every day of the month. I will certainly implement that

I have a prison/skyblock background so I can provide quite a few ideas for content to keep players engaged (for yourself or other people interested that are on this thread)

» As others have mentioned, custom enchants.
This can be a make it or break it for people who play Skyblock. I find a lot of players don't like high protection enchantments and would prefer to grind out exp for an enchant that can make their tools stand out from others. If you own a discord server with a community you want to bring into your server, I recommend asking for suggestions for enchants or if you're able to think of ideas, definitely make a poll for your community to vote on. This will keep your people engaged and they will feel as if they are heard.

» Tournaments
Tournaments is a relatively easy to set up, content update. If you're not interested in giving out rewards daily, you can look into making tournaments a weekly thing which requires little effort for you but these on/off island tasks will keep your players engaged so long as you have the right incentive (reward) for winning.

» Realms
This is my favourite because I've been on 1 server that has executed this in an alright fashion.
Realms are places you travel to, that serve different purposes. Firstly, you have to grind to afford a realm (can be sold in a token shop, can be crafted with misc blocks etc). Additionally, you can have realms that offer different advantages and are only open for a few hours daily (to limit it being OP). As an example, you can open a fishing realm which has pvp enabled but offers custom fishing rewards. You can have a boss arena where you can spawn custom bosses, or fight a once daily event boss (summoned by console). You can have a mining realm which can have regenerating ores to help people make money, but again is only open at certain times of the day. The possibilities are endless with the realms.

» Token shop
Allow players to grind mobs/farm crops to obtain tokens to open a different shop which sells cosmetics or other in game advantages. If you are able to be creative with rewards, a lot of modern servers use token shops but fail to actually update the shop or put useful content worth purchase. Keep this one in mind.

Although the name is in the game mode, players often like spending time away from their island especially if you are a non competitive server and will have lengthy seasons. If you are making a server, my recommendation is to only have a few "cool" bits of content for the start of the world (your release) and save some of your other cool content for updates. Players will steer clear of servers that don't do weekly/monthly content updates since that regular gameplay will eventually get stale.

It's hard to make an 'original' and 'unique' server, especially with skyblock for cheap.
My advice is put your time and effort into making a good tutorial and support for players. This does not mean to skip out on plugins and features, by all means you need to put a LOT of effort into those but stick more into 'returning player retention' than a lot of other servers do.
