I've been thinking about starting a music theme blog for a while. Just wondering if anyone knows what the difficulty would be in growing a music blog. I'm planning on covering all genres. Anything about music from new releases, birthdays, deaths, events, whatever.

My plan is to have a website for blog posts, and an instagram to go with it.

I was also thinking about maybe starting off by making a few articles and posting them here, kinda like a weekly post about music. Anyone interested in following lemme know I'll make a tag-list for posts about it.

making a blog that fits an already-existing niche will be hard to make mainstream

While I agree with what sentosa said, I feel as though a lot of people create blogs to simply express their passion for a specific topic or niche and occasionally, they get noticed and their traction begins to pick up. Follow what truly motivates you and pursue a blog if you're extremely passionate about music!

Sorry to break it to you, but i wouldn't do it. It might sound like a very good idea in your head, but how many people do you think have had that same idea, and made a blog like that? A lot. How many were successful? not many. What do you think you have that it would be different enough to make an impact from all the other music blogs out there?

When you setup your blog, let me know, I would like to join

Thanks
Will do!

This is a good point. I feel like maybe music is to widely covered and too broad for what I want to do.
This is what I'm thinking. I want to blog mostly about rock music as that's where my passion is mainly.
As I'm in a band, I would love to do a few things apart from just sharing music news.
- I want to help bring attention to up and coming bands and help new groups get the first little bit of attention they need to get them going in the right direction.
- I want to talk about what it's like being in a full-on do-it-yourself band (as my band doesn't have any specific producers, managers, labels, etc. its all run by basically me and my two bandmates) and kinda provide tips for others to follow.

I'll definitely take the time to brainstorm this some more thought, as your very right. I need some unique ideas

Yes. You got my point. Now what you said sounds more doable, and in my opinion more interesting than what you originally posted. With that said you have my thumbs up. But here's some words of advise. If you really want to do this, don't get discourage as it might seem very appealing to give up after a while of nothing getting any notoriety. Persistence is key. I also recommend having some Recurring Posts, like every month have a post for the "Band of the month", or every friday post some underground rock album that maybe some people have never heard of. Anyway, with that said i hope the best of luck for you. I would like to see this project materialize so share something when you have it. If you need any tips i am happy to help you!

As previously mentioned above, if you go into make a blog for the fun of it or as a passion you'll enjoy it a lot more and might even see more success.

Unless you have been an established blogger, it will be very hard. The only popular blogs I know of that have very broad topics are blogs that put a lot of efforts into it. (Comedy, drawings incorporated in posts, written by well-known people, parody...) Otherwise, your best bet would be a very specific topic. Some people regroup every single piece of information on earth about a specific music album for example, with credible sources, and when someone looks for information about that album, they stumble on the blog. Or a music blog about a very niche music genre that not may people know about, so that when the few people interested in that genre look for it on a search browser, they stumble upon your blog. Still, I think even if your blog has a non-existent audience, you should write about things you enjoy (or hate passionately) or its going to become just one more chore in your daily routine. Writing a blog has basically no monetary risk (unless you really want to go the extra step), the only thing you're risking is your time. If you love writing, its not time wasted.
