Hey all,

So I had a little money left over from a while ago and decided to use it on purchasing a cheap domain (that is, sevr.org). Now by no means am I an expert in the domain market, but I personally find the domain appealing, particularly to the category of advertising (it is a relatively short link and is rather generic to 'servers').

So this got me thinking... I could start a project with this. And I realise this is no easy task.

I'm sort of thinking a website that would
  • allow searchable (categorised by type) servers
    • Discord
    • TeamSpeak
    • Minecraft
    • Other Game Servers
  • create simple and customisable redirect links (e.g discord.sevr.org/myname, dc.sevr.org/myname, sevr.org/dc/myname, sevr.org/myname?dc, sevr.org/myname - any of those).
  • Allow customisable "home pages" for users + servers.

I don't have any money... lol... so I'll be doing a lot of the coding (but it's crude because I suck in PHP).. so yeah.

What are peoples' thoughts on this? I would love for you guys to get involved with me, it would mean the world because it could be quite fun + maybe even succeed in the future.
(Understandably I know people probably look over this and be like, bleh, no money, no deals... or substandard work. I'm cool with that.)

High performance, consistent uptime and fast support. Minecraft hosting that just works.

PHP development, leadership skills, hosting + domain.
But if your code is crude, deprecated, and unsecure it will be a waste of time since someone would have to go behind you and fix it all. Not trying to attack you or your effort, but if you only have the hosting + domain to offer (everyone can offer leadership skills) I am just struggling to see the advantage of working with you rather than just taking the idea and doing it themselves.

I simply said crude, and you do not take into account learning + partnerships. I have a few friends who are proficient in PHP who can guide me. Taking the idea would just be stupid.

Sounds pretty fun, you’d need to have ads or something to help cover costs of hosting and covering the domain. I can’t see signatures on mobile, but if you want to add me or let me know what your discord is we can talk more. :) Avery#2714

Everyone has to start somewhere, this would be a learning experience for her to become much better at PHP.

Okay, in that case feel free to PM me or add me through Discord. I am interested in the idea as it seems like it could work out. Hopefully I did not offend you.

Try entering the Discord guild I setup, it's just so we can work on it as a team (whoever joins).

I could definitely help you out if I don't steal the idea first
Well I mean it would be more beneficial to both of us if you worked with me rather than against me <3. After all, .org = not for profit :3.
As for development, using a PHP framework like Laravel will relieve some of the burden and speed up the development process. You just need to be familiar with OOP PHP and the MVC methodology first.
Yeah, just gotta wrap my head simple PHP too, getting there slowly, though.

I like the idea, I hate the domain. servr =/= server

Also .org's are way more expensive than .com's. Not sure why you'd want a .org? The idea itself is rather intriguing and I think it should definitely start out as MC as this is a MC marketplace if you're ever going to get interested investors to devote some money into getting some secure DDOS protection, website hosting, etc.

Only thing I could possibly offer is my critique, "leadership skills" (I put in quotes as I do have experience with running projects and what not), and possibly money.

Let me know if you still want to discuss things out to flesh your idea out. I hope this is for profit and that people would pay subscription plans to keep their website homepage and easy discord domain. I envision this to be like a namecheap (for domain/website purposes), a discord.me, + any other websites like teamspeak server lists?

Uhh new .org domains generally cost the same amount as new .com domains unless, of course, it is a premium domain.
They are $10/year
Namecheap has 8.88 deals for .com's.

I wouldn't call .org's way more expensive because there's not a sale on them...

Good thing I wasted my Cyber Monday coupon on it - it cost me $0.88

It's actually sevr - server. So it is ;)

I really like this idea! I could definitely see it as a service I would use. Once my server hosting company takes off, I would be more than happy to consult my "co-workers" on sponsoring your website to help it grow. I wouldn't require pay due to the uniqueness of this idea, and I bet a lot of communities and people alike could benefit from this! Two small critiques, though.

  • Not a huge fan of the name, personally.
  • I would personally get a .com instead of a .org, considering your budget, since .org's are generally more expensive (I just got my .com @ 1and1 for $1.17 for the first year).
Good luck! I hope me and my peer's company succeeds, and I wish you good luck on your service as well! I would love for this idea to become a reality.

Can be changed in the long run, for now getting it up is the only thing that really matters. Then we'll see about domains.

Again, can be changed. I spent $0.88 on the domain this time round so it's not a problem yet.

Thanks ^.^
