Thoughts on designers not designing their own personal logo?

There is a good amount of designers on here, (not saying names, even though I could) pretty good designers, that will order a really nice looking logo, that is the same style as the type of things they make, but much better looking and overall higher quality (not resolution)

Personally, I believe that this is not very good because it gives the assumption that, that designer made that logo, especially when it is used on portfolio websites as the person's avatar, like Dribbble or Behance, People might be more likely to purchase from him or her because they see this amazing logo or design.

I guess that seems right. Maybe they should leave a note that they didn't make it.

I feel like if it gets to a point where they need to make a note, they shouldn't do it in the first place, but again, that is just me, don't judge

I do not think that there is an issue if a designer has a logo not from themselves as long as they are not offering logo design. I personally find it really bad if people advertise their skill with something they did not make. And in general logos are there to advertise you as a person or company.

Yep, I agree, I was 100% talking about people that offer what they bought from somebody else for themselves, blah blah yeah you get the point.

Well, first of all, it saves them time. If they have a lot of work to do then making a logo that no one is going to pay for isn't really the best of things.

Plus it's better when someone else does something for you for example when your mom makes you a sandwich is better than doing it by yourself because when you do it you become ``confident`` with the smell. Its all phycology.

I definitely agree with Marek on this. I get asked all the time how much it would cost for a profile picture like mine, when I specifically say I do not offer hand drawn designs.

Do you mean psychology? Also, you say how making a logo no one is going to buy isn't the best. However, isn't spending money you don't need to spend not the best of things? If I had the ability to make a logo and save some money, I would make myself a logo. Also, the designer can make the logo just how he wants it, since he doesn't have to try to tell another designer how he wants it.

Whenever I try to find someone who designs logos and such, I always look at their logo. It usually gives me an idea of what they can do. I believe that they should make their own logo if they didn't already.

That's why people usually provide a portfolio but I can agree it can be misleading, I've seen thousands of times people with a amazing logo but their own artwork is ``crap``.

I feel it highly depends on the case. I have people in mind who might of not made their exact logo but bought it before they started designing so they keep using it since they built a identity around it.
