I probably will get them and probably won’t get the 2nd gen but they seem cool. It’s been 2 years they’ve been saying AirPower would come out and it melted phones so I don’t feel it’ll come out this year.
I've made a post about this before, and their "worth it factor" is determined by what you do.
Personally I go to the gym and go for runs pretty often, and this is where the Airpods shine. You don't have a dangling cord getting in your way, they don't fall out as easily as you may think, and they feel comfortable in whatever you're doing.
Also, if you have an iPhone 7 or newer, the ability to charge and listen to music at the same time is a lifesaver.
They also charge ridiculously fast, and they last me over 4-5+ hours at a time. The case for them also barely runs out of battery, so you will almost never be in a spot where you can't charge your Airpods.
Now, the only reason I would say you shouldn't buy it is if these things don't apply to you. If you want to go for style or something of the sort, go ahead, but if you have a Samsung (or some other device that has a headphone jack) and don't do the things I listed, I wouldn't really recommend it.

Coming from someone who owns a pair and can't wait for Airpods 2 to come out. I can say it's worth the $160.00 + tax = $180.00 depending on your area. They're small. You can wear them all day and never get tired of them. They come in handy when changing your music because all you do is tap on the left or right airpod. The case is a portable charger so when they go dead. You can charge them in the case which comes in handy. They never fall out and sound amazing. Anyone who say they're a waste of money just don't have $180.00 to spend but believe me. You wont regret them. I love my airpods. They also charge hella fast. You give it about a good 10-20 mins and you're all set to go. With that being said. You get about a good 3 hours of playtime with them which is ok but it kind of kills your vibe when you're jamming and they go dead but it's all good. They're still worth the money but that's the only downside and just having someone call your phone and all you have to do is accept the call and talk to said person with the airpods in your ear is amazing. It would be even better if all you said to do was say accept or ignore and the phone would automatically answer the call without you even having to pick up your phone to click the button. I stock so being able to listen to my music, skip songs and answer calls without having to hold my phone comes in handy. If you do decide to get them. Make sure you get some accessories like a case to go around your case so it wont get dirty and scratch up and a case to go around your airpods so if you drop one. You want get a dent or scratch in them which I have done, but it's not that noticable but "m OCD so little things like that bother me.

For most people, it isn't "just for the memes," and the sound quality is fine; although that isn't the main point of them. I mentioned other reasons of getting them in my comment.
Nothing's wrong with normal, and when you are paying 160$ for the things it offers, to me it is worth it.
Similar, not the same. Like I said, there are reasons why I like it more than wired stated in my comment above.
No two things are the same, except for thoughts and concepts. For people who aren't ignorant, similar would be the correct usage as there are capabilities both of them share, but their are also differences. Clearly wiring is one.

buy the i10 TWS from ebay they are literally the same but the case is different
Jabra Elite 65t outperforms airpods and basically cost the same. I don't see the hype hype over airpods. They don't sound good to me and the features are limited. You can't control the sound such as messing with a dedicated EQ for the earphones. Sure you can download the app but it's really not the same. The Jabra has that for the same price range as airpods. Airpods are definitely not for the people who care solely about sound. Good for simple things and people who just want to listen to music and not pay attention to class but there are definitely better options.
The Jabra is better to wear during class if you don't want to listen to your teacher. Fits in your ear, doesn't stick out, and features noise canceling. Don't even have to hear her talk if you don't want but you can control the amount of sound you want to be let in. Still a better option for people like this...
