How would it work?

So yeah, it's a fairly simple concept. It'd be remotely similar to the current system in place when it comes to suggestions i.e; words get flagged & related threads are shown (an example is provided below). However, this would flag certain words such as; "Minecraft Accounts" & let the user know that the thread is potentially breaking site rules.

Why would it be helpful?

A large portion of the time I see threads with forbidden products & services the author seems to either be a new user or quite the opposite - a user who has quite recently come back to the site and hasn't realized a product or service has been added to the list of forbidden products and services. That being said, this system would essentially let them know that they should check up on the rules to make sure they're not breaking any.

High performance, consistent uptime and fast support. Minecraft hosting that just works.

I love this.

Upon submission of a thread/post, a list of phrases is cross-referenced, and if the thread/post contains any of those words, the user’s submission is cancelled and they are provided a popup notice informing them of which phrases were flagged, and encouraging them to check our linked forbidden products/services wiki to ensure they’re not in violation of our rules. They would then have the opportunity to read the wiki and decide whether or not to hit submit again and go through with the post.

I feel like this would be very helpful, maybe send a small notification

" Your recent post has been flagged! Click here to view why your post got flagged and how to fix it. "

I think this would be great for new users and users that didn't read the wiki of forbidden products / or rules.

If it gets flagged, have staff review it? Cause it may not be entirely accurate

Don't see why that'd be needed? The flag is nothing but a simple alert to the user that it may be violating site rules & asking the user to read the rules to ensure they're being followed correctly.

Good suggestion.
the user’s submission is cancelled
I think adding this step would be taking it to far. There is a difference between giving them a notification that it could be breaking the rules and referring to the page (good idea) compared to just canceling their submission due to a word being in there (bad idea). A specific example that comes to mind is with investments. Considering that MCM has some investments that are allowed, or the word investment being used in partnership, threads being shut down for that (as its technically a forbidden thing to be sold) is not reasonable. But, if we stick with matty's suggestion, it allows them a chance to review to make sure they are good to go, instead of taking the extra step and auto-banning the thread.

Fully read Justis' post. It's not auto-banning the thread. It's a confirmation before the user has the option to actually submit/post it.

i just read it again, it at no place says that the user could then confirm that they do wish to post the content. It just says a notice is provided with the flagged words and the submission “ is canceled”

Far out... This is literally a system that's in place on places like stack exchange and is exactly what it means. It acts as a confirmation and not a total ban, it's not that hard to understand.

Must of skimmed past that part, apologies.

We’ve gone ahead and gotten this developed for our XF2 release alongside all of our other upcoming changes.

I'll move this to accepted, thanks for the suggestion.
