Tips for a Server

I'm planning on making a new MC server, but before I do, I'd like to know what you guys think: what interests you in a server? (I'm thinking factions, since that's the one I have, by far, the most experience in - both playing and managing.) Are there any cool plugin ideas that you would definitely love to play alongside? What are you pet peeves when it comes to server management and owners? Anything you think I should know?

One tip is to not start a server unless you have quite a large budget. Most servers don't get anywhere without paid advertisements nowadays. Also, a unique idea and custom plugins attract more players.

The only tip I have is creativity. There are a lot of Factions projects that don’t succeed, due to repeated ideas and generic gameplay. I suggest possibly not doing factions, if you REALLY want your server to succeed. However, just my personal opinion. I’m happy to elaborate if needed.

That's the first time I've heard of a practice server. Can you link me to something that explains it, or maybe to Kohi's practice server?

You're right, and that's what I really want to avoid when creating a server. What kind of server idea would succeed? Maybe I could start with that and work my way up. I'm not opposed to new experiences
