Hi there

So, I am thinking of making my own server, I have been a server owner in the past however non of the servers I have made have ever kicked off well.

I am doing this for the fun of it, It would be very very very nice to get some profit out of it but the base reason is to have fun and hopefully get a community.

I myself know how to make a basic factions server, and that is mainly it (basic as in it puts up with most standards, but not the type of really high up faction servers)

I was think of either a factions server, or a skyblock server, or even a prison server. (Maybe some practice pvp in there)

I would like recommendations on which of these 3 could build up a nice community :D

I don't know how to make an xenforo website but usually every now and then vouch copies pop up, and I can edit my own trailer

If people recommend skyblock or prison I will have to pay for a setup :(

Here are the things I will be paying for:
Small youtuber advertisement
Maybe a setup
Hosting
*if I can't find a vouch copy* an xenforo setup
Maybe a domain
Cheap logo and banner

My Budget is 30$

I know for a fact that I can get most of these things bought for 30$

But a lot of people say it is very stupid to make a server in 2018 without a good budget.

I remind you I am in it for the fun, and if possible a bit of profit

Any recommendations the mcm community can give me to start this server well and get a small but nice playerbase?

Please :D

Oh and all people who give quality info will receive a vouch and a rep :D

As long as the servers relatively unique and friendly , causing people to stay. Fractions probably will gain you the highest community out of the 3. But don’t expect too much on that budget!
Thanks, as I said I am only looking to build a small pb, 5-10 players. And if I can make profit it would be great :D

If that's how it is then make a server on the game-mode you'll personally enjoy playing the most :)
:D thanks , but when I say I am in it for the fun, I would love to have a community you know , it would be nice, and I enjoy all 3 of those gamemodes, so I don't mind

In this version of minecraft, most things have to be custom or unique for people to stay! No ones gonna stay for a basic server where you can get better by moving to another. You need something people will go "Wow" and say "This is amazing" and give them something they wont forget! That is a way to get money and a playerbase

I see where you are coming from.

However considering my budget it would be very hard to do this.

And sure if we do use custom plugins and such it would probably keep 75% of the players who login

But even if we don't we will keep probably 10-25%

And as I mentioned I am shooting for a small playerbase not a big one

Thank you for participating and helping out though ;D[DOUBLEPOST=1521290663][/DOUBLEPOST]
I'd go with factions :p
Thank you :D[DOUBLEPOST=1521290803][/DOUBLEPOST]
Is your budget $30? my best advice would be just don't make it, you will probably stop the server disappointed.
Well, see I have known a few people who have had barely any money and have gotten a 30+pb from it.

Sure there is a VERY low chance of me getting even a small playerbase with my budget

But if I get the right youtubers for the right price

It could very well happen

So I will probably risk it, but still looking for input and maybe proof of servers failing with a low budget

Thank you for your reply, have a nice day :D

I have a small survival server with 5-10 players on and made about $300-350 in donations so far. I really just used forums to advertise.

A budget of $30 will get you nowhere of a good server or a high playerbase. I recommend starting with a factions server because factions servers are fairly easy to start with a low budget. I started mine with around $50-$60 and I got up to a 100 playerbase server in the end. You can't get any good builds, setups, small youtubers or arts for only $30. That's enough money to a host, domain, one logo and maybe a small 10-20 playerbase. Of course you can still succeed if you handle the setup, builds, arts, advertising by yourself. I recommend selling stuff until you have a budget of atleast $100-$200 if you want the server to be high quality and earn more profit.

10-20 pb would be absolutely fine with me, legit 5 pb would be fine.

Keep in mind I have money

But I don't want to use it all on this, I want to use 30$ for the fun of it you know

5 pb and maybe a few donations would be fine with me :D

And i can truly get small youtubers for 5$
hosting : 2$
logo: 10$
xenforo: free
trailer: free
setup(if needed): 10$
and I still would have 3$ left

Thank you for the response though :D[DOUBLEPOST=1521293557][/DOUBLEPOST]
Making a server off of $30 is completely possible with unexclusive builds and free plugins. Although t may be scummy, just buy alts for advertising Kappa

Also although not a big amount I will be doing 15$ giveaways each month on it.

And this will probably not make anyone care but there will be a 200$ ftop buycraft

How'd you grow your factions server? currently struggling with mine and would appreciate some help :)

it's also fine if you don't share because you know, industry secrets and stuff

How long has it been up for, and which forums are you using to advertise?
