Basically I am planning to do some metal detecting and need to find good, lesser-known spots. But before I get into that, I'll talk some more about it.

My interest in metal detecting began when I was little. Back then I got an old RadioShack metal detector for $1 at a garage sale and had some fun with it, I found lots of change, old tools, sunglasses, a few knives and of course a ton of trash (bottlecaps, nails, metal wrapping, etc.) I also used to watch metal detecting videos for years and have wanted to go out one day with a good detector and find some war relics, either the U.S. civil war, or WW2 in Europe.

Just recently I remembered all of this and now realized that I can finally do all these things that I wanted. I ordered a very high-end and fairly pricey metal detector (one of the best out there that you can buy). I've also been doing a lot of research on locations, reading up on laws varying by country and making a detailed plan for what I want to do.

This summer I am planning a visit of around 3 months to be with Zylendia . I've visited her for 1 month at a time before a few times, however this time it's 3 months, meaning it should be plenty of time to do some decent detecting. She is in Denmark, meaning the areas I plan on going to the most are going to be Southern Denmark where German troops invaded from and of course, Germany itself. I am also considering the Western Front (Basically West Germany and the countries neighboring it). In addition to this, we are planning a road trip going from Denmark to Sweden to Norway (We will stay in Norway, but we are mainly just driving through Sweden).

The reason I am making this thread is because obviously there are documented battlefields, but those tend to be searched often. An excellent way to find good spots is through locals who were told of lesser-known battles, medical outposts etc. by their relatives who may have been around then or were told about it. If anybody knows of any good spots around them where war activity happened, please let me know!

Areas where I will be/plan on being:
  • Denmark (Focus on areas in Southern Denmark mainly near the border, since that is where the Germans passed through)
  • Germany (Focus on the parts closer to Denmark, mainly North or West, but any info on any part of Germany is greatly appreciated!)
  • Norway (The Germans came here by sea, but if anyone has info on things that occurred here, please let me know!)
  • Sweden (Pretty sure there wasn't really any war activity here, but I could be wrong, again, I'm just looking for some info)
Remember, these sites don't have to necessarily be war-related, however that's mainly what I am after.

So if anyone who lives in these areas can help, I would greatly appreciate it! I am just trying to find some good, lesser-known places to go metal detecting. So if you know some woods or farmland where there was war activity, or things of that nature, please let me know, I would greatly appreciate any help!

If you're curious, here are the things I want to find the most:
  1. Luger pistol
  2. SS helmet
  3. Iron cross
  4. Third Reich coins
Thank you in advance! I really hope some of you guys have some info on possible places to try! :)

TL;DR: I am looking to find good spots to metal detect for WW2 relics, mainly in Denmark/Germany/Norway/Sweden. If you live there and know of any places where war activity happened, I would appreciate if you told me! Many places are forests, fields and farmlands, etc.

One thing I just realized is that most people from this timezone are asleep now, RIP. Tomorrow I hope to see some replies!

Thank you, I appreciate it! :D

I still have like 4 months before I plan on going, so I'll be practicing with my new detector at home, mainly on beaches. The detector I'm getting can detect up to like 10 feet deep (deeper if the item is huge) and it can easily tell apart junk from the good stuff, so I can essentially set it to ignore trash like bottle caps and pop tabs, etc. So this'll be an amazing time for me, now the only thing is to find good spots for my Europe trip haha :p

Give up on Sweden, we haven't been at war for almost 200 years. Not sure if you can find really that much in Denmark tbh. The invasion only took 6 hours and there was very little fighting. You might have a better chance in Norway but I doubt it. I would say your biggest chance to find something is in France -> German or Belgium -> German border. Finland might be an idea tho, not sure how long the Soviets pushed before they capitulated and agreed on peace. But there was German support in Finland during the Finnish "Continuation War" not sure what the name is in English.

My metal detector came in the mail last Monday. I took it to the beach to try it out and it works amazingly! I found a fuckton of change, bottlecaps, random trash and a working lock + key. Also, nickels give off the same signal reading as gold (63) which is really funny since at one point I got a really nice signal, dug about a foot down and found an old 1954 nickel.

I also have been doing a lot more research lately and I found old map of a site where the Germans who were invading Denmark had a battle. After some time I was able to locate the exact spot on google maps and I now have an amazing spot to check out!

i live in denmark :3

I know but which part? And do you know of any potential good digging sites?
Oh really sweden but not finland :(

Haha, we are just passing through Sweden to get to Norway, we are just going to explore the area and do some touristy stuff, but I also thought maybe doing a little metal detecting there would be fun as well.

I know Finland is a great place to detect though and it would be fun some day as well! btw assuming you’re from Finland, I’m proud of you guys for fighting off the commies so well :)

Yeah, I didn’t think there would be anything in Sweden haha.

And hmm, I was able to indentify an area on google maps very specifically where a battle happened in Southern Denmark and there were german armored vehicles shot up, etc. I’m really considering going there since it’s close to where I’m staying. I also read of areas where many Germans were staying, do you think these areas are worth checking out at all? The one I described above would be on the way to Germany so I think it would be worth a stop :)

I was also considering those areas too haha, mainly the Germany/Netherlands border, but Germany/Belgium and France sounds interesting, only thing is I’m hoping to find a spot as close to Denmark as possible, but if I have to drive further somewhere, I will see if I can make it. Which areas closest to Denmark do you think would be good to check out?

Oh and I won’t be able to get to Finland I don’t think but I definitely have heard a lot about it and know there are a ton of good detecting areas there!

Thank you for your insightful reply btw!

that's a cliff lmao and it's so far away, no war stuff happened there, that's just stuff from after the ice age which I'm pretty sure Doge's Metal detector from amazon can find anything

Thanks! Sounds interesting however it's too far from Jutland and I doubt I would find much there with my detector.

LOL, I got the XP Deus which cost $1,300, literally one of the best metal detectors out there.

WW2 stuff. Helmets, guns, coins, pins, etc.

Viking stuff would be very cool, but obviously very hard to find. With war relics, I can at least find areas where stuff happened with decent research.
This preject is really naisu, hope u succed doge gabbana

Thanks!

Exactly, I did find one good area in Southern Denmark so far though, took me an hour, but I used an old hand-drawn map of a battle that happened and was able to match it up on google maps via roads and the forest. I plan on detecting on the field as well as in the forest.

Maybe Cate's parents know something or try googling around and asking danish farmers that live near the border to Germany

They told me of a lake where some ww2 guns were found, so I'll definitely be checking that area out and the forest surrounding it. May also get one of those powerful magnets and do some magnet fishing/prodding the lake bed to see if there's more stuff down there.

And thank you for that last part! I was actually thinking of asking around while down there, but now that I think of it, maybe I'd be able to find some way to contact and ask them if they know of anything and if I can detect on their property. Most stuff happened in Germany, but I know people have still found nazi coins and gas masks in Denmark so it's definitely worth it for me to try and detect.
