Hello! I don't know if many of you know about the game-mode towny but it's quite interesting! For the people who do know about towny, what would you like to see on a server that's new and interesting?

Towny wars. It exists, haha. I find it a lot more interesting than factions, especially the aesthetic that most servers have from it. I've only known 1-2 that have it, and one of them has executed it beautifully. It's an old server, its been around for a couple years and on their site was something pretty interesting. They had a wiki where players would contribute to and document every war and conflict.

It's literally an entire history textbook. You can learn about the oldest nations that started near the server's first launch and go through all of it's past conflicts and wars. It was absolutely beautiful to a niche player like me. Even my own small town was included in it's pages after being pillaged by one of the largest nations. Large scale wars are going on between dozens of huge nations, and somewhere lost in those pages, I was apart of it. If done right- even if it is very niche- creating something so unique like that again would be incredible, but quite difficult. It's a much different experience once you get invested into it, get yourself into conflict or just make some deals with some of the most influential players on the board, and you'll gradually get yourself into the politics of it. The politics and economy of it all was something only the players themselves would create, but if you do want to pull it off, best of luck to you.

The server I'm talking about is Civilization Wars. (heres the iconic wiki) The playerbase is pretty small now but it was really at its best in it's earlier years 2013-2014.

Amazing idea! I am thinking about making my own server and I want the community to be very strong and If I find a way to pull this off I think the community will be amazing. May I ask how the information is so accurate? Did the players submit them and then have staff review and make sure they were correct?

Looks familiar.
If you hadn't named the server i'd say that that desc fits CivCraft, which also was an epic server. It wasn't towny type one but a realistic survival server. I guess at its core did seem to have some of the towny implementations but yeah.. Good servers, good memories..

I want to create a warm and strong community with my server just like how the server you played on left you with those memories!

It's very community based, you'll come across a lot of players that want to record everything in detail and with accuracy, these are your most valuable and influential players. Most of the larger powers like Florence or Vekta have had easily a population of a hundred players each so many were available to experience the conflicts that the nations underwent throughout it's lifetime themselves. Not only were there several players to tell their experiences and contribute to the wiki, there were a few players that were dedicated to recording these in it's most accurate and non bias form, true historians they were.

Of course you'll have some players that inaccurately record events but people will eventually come by to correct them. Even better, if you have a large staff team, the staff will most likely be there to experience it themselves to confirm.

Take a look at the nation Vekta and it's revival as New Vekta.[DOUBLEPOST=1524874253][/DOUBLEPOST]Hell, people even recorded when people went on killing sprees and considered them massacres: http://civwarsmc.wikia.com/wiki/Reign_Massacre Or each individual battle in detail: http://civwarsmc.wikia.com/wiki/Burning_of_Adelaide

Check out this page here: http://civwarsmc.wikia.com/wiki/The_Axis_War I was apart of it, that's me there under "Siege of Edessa" lead by my friend RedNBlocky haha

If you do this idea PM me I'd be more than happy to help out. I'm a history freak and this would fit perfect.

There could be different seasons, all based on different empires in history and different civilizations maybe?

Krythax I'd also be interested in helping out. I knew the Civilization Wars server inside and out, and now that it's on a decline after its lifetime of 5 years, I'd love to see something new.

For sure! I'll PM you along the way, I'm just brain-storming ideas right now on a google doc!

I think that would fall more into the RPG category and that's not my thing, sorry!
No it is not.
Basically the initial idea of the "Civ" style/lore is the "nations", which in basic terms are "towns" translated to Towny style servers.
All of the towns have mayors or town leaders etc. The nations/towns are capable of expanding "fulling" the expansion with resources to "claim" protected land, and thus also making small outpost of that nation in far regions.
Wars can be claimed or battled and the whole nation or the capital can be attacked. There is a very specific conditions/mechanics under which these battles are fought and the whole pvp style is a bit different too in that gamemode.
Also the whole gathering of resources and rareness of them and how they spawn are really different but that doesn't make it rpg ofc.
I guess every server can make the lore of the server in a way they find fit and want to present to the players. It is more like factions or clans than something else. You can say that is a mixture of the best parts of towny, factions, clans, survival gamemodes (in some servers even hfc bits).
The whole idea is really good and if presented and done well it can become really an epic server with dedicated community. Of course that is also really hard to execute. Still tho, if you or someone else have the time the budget the will and the vision/inspiration i may also be happy to participate in such project.
